I was told it was illegal to have one in your possession after you leave the Army by a retired Army MSG. Is that true and if so.......why is that? Just curious. I don't have one (story behind the question not really relevant to the question).

If its an older jump manifest that lists SSNs of the jumpers it could be considered a violation of the Privacy Act. So in a way the MSG might be right. While its common to hold on to a jump manifest to prove number of jumps as safety or jumpmaster for admin purposes later, it would be best to mask or cover other soldiers private info.

I just saw this and had to laugh very hard, I have a couple of actual generated manifest, Jumpmaster copies not record copies, never heard of that BS, and that is BS of the smelly type. The SSN worry is a real concern but easy to fix, but if that was a big issue the army would have to stop doing mass orders for EIB's, CIB's etc since the SSN is on those mass orders. I have an AttaBoy book with numerous SSN's in them from my orders. If you see this MSG again tell him to cite the reg/law that makes it illegal. I think I will just sit back with a beer and await the Govt SWAT team rolling up on me for 30 year old manifest :)

SFC Christopher Learned - Why yes you young whipper snapper I have :), But the MSG that was spouting "It's Illegal" was talking about when they did put PID on documents. He made ups some bullshit about being illegal to cover not knowing what he was talking about. When they stopped putting PID on documents they also put out Personal Identifying Information policies and guidance. Now pardon me while I walk my woolly mammoth, at least that's what the wife calls it, damn I think I just violated a few policies and regulations whit the double entendre, doing push ups now.

CSM Charles Hayden - CSM officially recorded 180, personal jump log is 253 mt last jump was out of a jar head rotary wing on Coyle Air attack filed in NJ. Keep in mind I was a barracks rat that lived to jump so I spent man a Friday night on the DZ drinking the night before a Sat fun jump event. My last unit an ABN Reserve Battalion presented me with a centurion award after I retired.I am now paying for those jumps every cold morning :) My youngest hopes to pin on mt fathers silver wings and maybe down the line my Master wings.

1SG Dennis Hicks - I have 10 more years to go myself but I've go a real neat job now where I can set my hours and work 85% of the time from home. They have a program where you can buy into their full pension (which of course I am going to do....cha-ching). :) It's a new benefit for folks with less than 20 years of service and I really hope that benefit spreads to other companies.
