It is possible but also depends on the unit mote. For example, we promoted pfc’s to cpl to put in leadership positions to give them experience since we were at the time auto promoting sgts to ssg. It was up to the commander to decide. I only promoted 1 while in command that way. We also had one we laterally promoted to cpl. It is rare in non-combat mos’ but can be done.

Yes I know that a CPL os considered a “hard stripe” thus a leadership position, but as a good NCO you should be grooming your good troops for promotion

What is this about a P? A Corporal is a leadership position... an NCO, a SP-4 is not a leadership position (in most cases, see Allen Lynch). It used to be a SP5 or 6 had to follow a Corporals “recommendations”. I had a P after CPT, and I took it off. An O3E sounded better
