Good morning,
I am currently reviewing NCOERs. One if the NCOERs has two bullets pertaining civilian education.
The first bullet, under intellect, says “pursued educational goals; completed 12 credit hours with 3.8 GPA towards a BA degree in XX.”
The second bullet, under achieves, says “earned two AA degrees while servicing as XX without degradation of mission success.”
I understand the thinking process of the rater but it’s still double dipping in a way. What do you think?

Merge the bullets to one, more powerful bullet

The two AA degrees may satisfy the general education requirements of his BA, and may have been granted by the college for military service and MOS training enough to earn an associate degree. When I was teaching at a community college I saw this all of the time.

This may be a personal opinion but if they are two separate degrees why not. Earning 2 associates and completing 13 credits for a Bachelor’s in the same rating period seems like they both should be highlighted. It would be like if I won post Best Warrior competition and also competed in a separately ran BDE NCO of the quarter competition. Two separate events. One was an achieves the other was under any other attribute that it fits in.

Completely agree, they aren't the same "event."

Thanks! That’s how I see it, but I can see it being looked at as one “event”.

SFC (Join to see) I think if it is written correctly to establish it is two different events and they are in separate competencies on the NCOER it should be all right. This NCO should get credit for both. I got my associates and then waited over a year to start my bachelors. So completing one and then starting the other in the same rating period is a great accomplishment that should be annotated

I think that would be the main factor. If it is a case of "took English Comp to complete my associates degree" and "that same English Comp counts as credit towards my bachelors degree" they should be merged into one bullet, making it a "worked towards bachelors and got an associates in the process" bullet.
If the credits towards the bachelor are completely unrelated to the associates, I would separate them into one bullet for the accomplishment of getting the associates, and then one bullet for the process towards the goal of the bachelors.

I'd recommend merging the two achievements into one bullet separated by a semi-colon. While two separate events, wrapping into one makes for a stronger bullet, IMHO anyway.
