Is it possible to bypass the FEDREC promotion process if deployed and holding a position of a higher rank?

I'm currently deployed and received State orders for CPT. I have yet to populate on a scroll. I volunteered for the deployment and am currently holding an O3 slot (which I have been officially transferred into rather than attached). I transferred in to that spot in March (eligible for CPT in FEB). I had heard a rumor that being that since I'm on Title 10 and in a slot for the next higher rank, that there was a way to bypass the dreaded FEDREC process. The only info I could find that would justify this is in 10 USC 14316. However, I can't find anything in AR 600-8-29.
Just hoping somebody could shed some light on this.

Your Chain has the ability to give you a vacancy promotion. My BDE & BN CDRs wanted to do that for me when I was in your position. G1 incorrectly came back said, yes/no/yes/well/hold 1/no/maybe/etc. Your BN CDR has that authority to pin CPT on provided 1) you are in an O3 slot; 2) you have the time in grade; 3) if your name is not before the board or is pending the board (the later you withdrawal from the board). If your BN CDR does not wish to give you a vacancy promotion, sit and wait. Wait some more. Then wait again because CPT's lists take longer than the MOB processing lines.
A friend was given a vacancy promotion downrange. Unlike frocking, this is not a temporary promotion. You only get one vacancy in your career.

If you received state orders for CPT - you are roughly 9months out - and it will likely take 9 months for you to backdoor anything else. Just ride it out - I know this time sucks - but it will pass.

No. I've been deployed since June 2018 (state order June 28) and still waiting on fed rec.

Ask your CDR to frock you. That applies whilst deployed, and CDR dependant.

Oh, and our Chaplain was in a higher grade slot just like you, and still waited.

You'd think he had a higher power on his side pushing the scroll along.
Thanks for the info.

Don't think so. We had guys on the scroll while deployed, some went almost the whole time w/o fedrec. The deployment did not seem to affect the promotion process. sorry...
