I signed at 3 yr contract to Ft Stewart but i haven’t seen my orders yet. I’m currently in Hawaii and my DEROS is Jan 24 2020 but my report date isn’t until March 20 2020. I would like to go to Ft Carson. Is it too late to change with my DEROS being so soon & I’m already on orders.

Yes, but in order to do it you will have to delete your current assignment through your Career Counselor and then work with your branch for a new assignment.

You're not eligible to renegotiate your contract, and once your assignment is deleted, you are at the mercy of your branch. So, contact your branch to ask where they are willing to assign you before you delete your assignment. This close to your DEROS your options will be limited and they could just put you back on assignment to Stewart.

Take it up with your 1SG in the first instance and keep running it up the chain until you either get a new set of orders or you get a firm "no."
At the firm "no" see the IG.

For clarity, the only reason I said see the IG is because sending you to Ft Carson would be a breach of contract by the Army. Your contract says you go to Ft Stewart. If they send you anywhere else they've broken the contract. The IG can fix this sort of thing when BN Commanders would find it hard because it comes down to a failure to follow protocol. Your branch manager may have jumped the gun by putting you on assignment before you re-enlisted. Now his butt will be in a crack because the army promised you one thing and he promised Ft Carson something else. This is his problem, not yours.
Be prepared to do some shuffling. MTOE's have been set and are not easily re-arranged. You may find that you have to PCS to Ft Carson in the first instance only to come down on orders for Ft Stewart a week or a month later. Poop runs down hill. Be ready for that.

Is it possible to change PCS assignment when already on orders?

Usually once you’re on assignment instructions you can’t change your assignment especially if it’s a priority 1 assignment and you’re less than 30 days from your DEROS. If you re-enlisted for your assignment you would need to talk with retention. Good luck to you...

Ive heard of crazier things happening... call Branch and see what they tell you. As a 42a you can go practically anywhere Army wide so it seems slightly possible.

You can call branch and ask but 90% of the time they will say no. With that said 10% they will say yes

I wouldn't trade my old OD's for all the Navys dungarees, I'd rather be a dog faced soldier like I am.

3ID, do it. Be fucking proud to be part of The Rock of the Marne.

You can do a 4187 and defer your re-enlist meant option. That being said, you will be eligible for needs of the army at that point and can’t get orders to anywhere and have no say so in it. Go to your Career Counselor and he can tell you the details.

I was at Stewart before Hawaii, and in all honesty, I should have stayed at Stewart.

Proximity to Savannah, Florida, beach, Atlanta. Seasons, the potential for free vacations during hurricane season, (got 2 while I was there (went to Nashville)) the surrounding area (Hinesville) has improved 10 fold since I left. They now have chic fil a, cook out, etc. the units have their ups and downs, but most do.

Now for the status of your orders: your DEROS and report date do not need to coincide, but you should have physical orders in hand unless you have not attended your levy briefing. I would recommend calling or walking to the Levy office and inquire, especially being a 42A, that should have been your first stepSPC (Join to see)
