What do you think of combining or doing away with marine corp jet aviation and let Air force or Navy handle it. Or posting Army combat units on Navy ships. What can we do to make our Military lean.

No, I believe compartmentalization and span of control is a good thing. In fact I would take all of the space assets out of the branches and form a Space Force if you will. No, the Space branch would not be a "Starship Troopers." It would encompass all the space capabilities from the Air Force, Army and Navy and consolidate them into one organization.

Lt Col (Join to see) I like this idea. Fun fact, though: there's been Coastie astronauts.

Knew that about the Coast Guard.
I wouldn't envision the astronaut corps being effected at all as that is actually a very small part of our space capability. A separate space branch would be a formal branch of what the US Space Command is responsible for. These being, launching and controlling space born assets like satellites, performing space based recon and other programs like strategic missile defense.

Each branch of the service has unique capabilities along with associated components. I do not see this happening, nor should it.

SFC Dave Wynn, we all want to cut down on bureaucratic delay as well. Marines that can call in their own air support without having to compete with other services' priorities for the same resources, for example, will be loath to give up the control.
