Is it true that personal cell phones are not allowed at some stateside Army bases?

NO - Most bases certainly not., just not allowed in certain areas - Photos are restricted too in some areas, such as the Gold Vault environs at Fort Knox. There are signs are posted on the fences and the edge areas that it can be seen from, where you would stop your car - which you are also not allowed to do.
YES, however there are some smaller installations where that is true - you couldn't get on or near them anyway.

LCpl Cody Collins - Not to my knowledge. There are USAF bases there that you will get in a lot of trouble if you try what I mentioned above (now that I've expanded it).

SFC Ralph E Kelley okay, I have a friend that has a Sweetheart in the army. He a civilian, and he was asking me about it because he knew I served in the Marines. I told him that the Marine Corps is a lot different than the Army. Plus cell phones didn't exsist when I served. He's confused because she still texts him but claims she can't make verbal calls. He's beginning to think, he may be taken for a fool or worse. Is there anyway that he can know if the base his Sweetheart is station is a no cell phone's allowed on base or a base where there are restricted areas ?

LCpl Cody Collins - It might be simply that her chain of command doesn't allow cellphone usage during the day, in the duty areas or in some cases they do not allow cellphones at work. I know that the services have SMS on computers but when I used them as a DOD Contractor we were limited to 50 characters. Hard to hold a heart-to-heart conversation. Any scans made were passed through HQs so love letters could have been posted on the bullitin board for all the privacy you had.

LCpl Cody Collins - Army no. Air Force - yes. There are National Guard armories all around Nebraska but no bases. There's Camp Ashland - that's a NG base. That's it.
If she's texting she's not in a secure location (or shouldn't be). Agreed maybe she can't use the phone during work time. Or she's playing him.

Where did you hear that? No - some AREAS on base you can't have a phone like secure areas. But overall no.

Never heard of it, tho your unit will have policies on their use- you are there to work, not talk to folks.
