I think I see more vets and retirees commenting on Rally Point than Active Service members. There's nothing wrong with this, but a lot of the time these individuals are so out of touch with the reality that current Service members face. It makes me think that maybe there needs to be a site for Active SMs to talk about their issues. Thoughts.

Why should it be so "Active Duty" oriented? Would you prefer Reservists and National Guard be isolated too?

LTC (Join to see), perhaps it would help if RP had a search filter that only turned up questions from SM. Failing that, the RP member can use the wetware filter to achieve the same effect.

Sir, I include Reserves and Guard when I say Active SMs. I specifically mentioned Vets and Retirees. If you've been retired for 20 years or served for 4 years in the 70s, 80s, or 90s you can't identify with the issues facing current SMs.

Capt. Seid Waddell. I have served nearly 28 years in the Active Duty, NG, and the USAR. I have found the Active Component likes to think they are at the center of the military universe. Too often this creates a feeling of arrogance and anyone else is worthless.

To be fair, its not as bad as it was when I joined the Army, but its definitely not hard to find.

MSG (Join to see) - I accept your clarification warmly. Buy consider the notion that what's old is new again. We spent decades with Air Land Battle Doctrine preparing for Russia coming through the Fulda Gap. I hope someone at the Pentagon is dusting off that plan an planning for multiple theater war. Whether we recognize it or not, its already here. We are just surrendering the initiative to our enemies.

I haven't done a scientific analysis of the discussion in which I participate but I do think that about half are with currently serving SMs. There are also plenty of discussions for that audience. So I think there is relevance here for currently serving SM, retirees, and veterans. I am fortunate to have recently retired but also work as a DA civilian for an ROTC program so I get to stay current on a lot of things. But, I will still share my stories from the great Army of the 1980s.

Vets and retirees have more time on their hands than do AD personnel. And you are correct that we older veterans are out of touch with today's military thinking - this site is one of the things that help us keep up with the profession. Sorry if it isn't mutually beneficial.

Personally, I try to steer clear of specific questions on regulations, promotion advice, etc. which are of most interest to ASM - things about which I have no current knowledge.

Sir I do like to hear the opinions of our vets and retirees, but sometimes I'm looking for other SMs Ideas.
