Is the term 'redneck' racist? There is commonly a lot of hubris considering the term. What do you think?

Well, yes and no. Although "Redneck" is used by non-rednecks as a pejorative, it is an insult freely used between them, much like "n*gg*r" (isn't it funny that the censors will most likely accept my clever use of asterisks even though we all know exactly what I'm referring to) who use the term freely between themselves but become angry when a white uses it.

Anything can be racist or bigoted depending on the way it is used. Nigger to me is offensive, the same way I hold any other racial stereotype wrong. But like with Nigger, I have friends in the sticks that call each other rednecks or Good ol Boys. I like country music, lifted trucks (even own one but 35's are too low. Need 40's), own a real Stetson, Wranglers (they don't make fat people sizes), farmers daughters, horses, drinking out of mason jars, sun tea extra sweet of course, peach and apple cobler, and hate the University of Texas and Dalla$$ but love OU. Does that make me a Blackneck?

I am from Upstate NY and there are self-proclaimed 'rednecks', even there. Some love the term and thrive upon it, even the very rich race owners and I am talking small tracks. Been around all types and common thread is the enjoyment of speed. Oh I love the Cowboys, Cardinals (STL), Celtics. lol Go Cs.
One of my favorite players is Jeremy Lin and most did not think he (as an Asian) could make it. Many didn't think Spud Web could not jump. I loved Dr. J's fro. He was so cool in all respects. Oh and Brad Daugherty grew up around NASCAR.
At a Tampa Rays, Cardinal's OF So Taguchi tried to bunk but was thrown out. The guy shouted out, "Go back to China you fucking gook." Oh hell no! I told him, "You idiot, he is not Chinese but Japanese". Asked what I would do about it. I said, kick your ass out. Our experiences like be called names, is an unfortunate fact of life and eternity will see slow paradigm-shifts.

"Redneck" has such a negative connotation to it. I prefer to be addressed by the term "Appalachian-American".
