Is there a temperature reg for wear of winter gear in the Army?

We’ve got someone pushing out that we’re not to wear the fleece cap or the jacket (any winter gear) until it is 32° F or below. The person says it’s not in 670-1 but rather the field sanitation guide. I can’t find any such regulation anywhere. Anyone know?

Command discretion. So they’re saying the right thing for the wrong reasons.
The current field sanitation TC just says “wear appropriate cold weather gear as directed by the commander”

SSG (Join to see) oh, I don’t think it’s a *smart* policy lol. But commander’s discretion is both the best and worst verbiage in the Army

That is true, that is why a smart soldier has in his inventory, really good thermals. I used to think back in basic how tough my drill sergeants were, then I learned of poly pros and extreme cold weather boots. You can stay warmer using the right undergarments and boots than you can with a field jacket. Depends on what you are doing and if you have to go inside much.

SSG (Join to see) never cared for the field jacket myself. I was an early adopter of gortex back when it was an optional purchase item or went with my field jacket liner under my blouse.

Used to wear the liner under the BDU's allot, bought the polly pros when I was at Ft. Knox one winter, we thought we were going to train on our platforms for teaching ROTC, the Major decided we would run a make shift Audie Murphy course, and no on brought any cold weather gear, after 5 hours of crawling thru the snow etc, on lunch most of us went to clothing and sales and bought some gear and gloves.

Google the Army’s levels of cold weather gear, it helps specify the temperatures and how to properly wear the different levels.

What's your threshold for pneumonia or frostbite, or other cold weather related ailments? Id tell em to shove it up their ass.
