There are no "tricks."
What you can do is modify your diet in specific ways that portions of body weight will drop off though.
You've got Fat, Muscle, Bone, Water, and "Waste."
You want to hold onto Muscle and Bone, and eliminate EXCESS Water, reduce fat, and get rid of waste.
Most fad or "quick" diets are going to go after Water/Waste (clear you bowels out, and reducing your % body weight by dropping water).
High Protein/Low Carb (Atkins as an example) diets do this (first), and then your body starts using Ketones for energy instead of Glycogen ("Sugar"). When you follow the diet, you lose A LOT of water weight very quickly, followed by Fat at a slower rate.
You can also do Plant Based (Fuhrburger), which has different benefits and different timelines.

I have recently purchased a Fit Bit, with the mentality that I wanted to eat smarter and move more. I wanted to lose about 10 pounds, adjust my overall energy level and improve my overall shape. What it has allowed me to do, and what has become blaringly apparent was identify ignorance. The program attached to it allows me to not only track exercise and zones of effort. It allowed me to track my intake of calories and macro-nutrients. The added benefit was it tracking my sleep cycles.
My point being, I didn't know just what I was doing. My simple approach has now adjusted by a lower carb diet, more protein and veggies and increased and regular physical activity. The numbers are in front of me daily, and serves as a reminder of what I need to do and a guide to adjust behavior over time. As others have said. Fast is NOT the answer. Consistent and smart are.
in a month of this diet/activity I have lost 5 pounds and become much smarter about my abilities, intake and choices. take your time and learn. Start simple and adjust small things. Educate yourself, and don't accept shortcuts. Hope this helps
