My son joined the Army 3 years ago and his enlistment is almost up. He wanted to join the Air Force, and took the ASVAB and all of his scored were in the mid to high 80s, unfortunately the AF recruiter blew him off. The Army recruiter was relentless. So to make a long story short he join the Army and is in Infantry.

So what I am wondering, is there still a Green to Blue Program? If so where can I find out more information on it?

TIA

A Soldier asked about this last week, and I can't find any information regarding it. Does the Soldier have to ETS out of the Army and then join the Air Force? Or can he submit a DD368 (Request for Conditional Release); if so to who?

From what I got from an Air Force recruiter. There are a select few position that are available for prior service people. The have to have a DD 214 before they will talk to them thought. Sounds a little risky if you want to be career military.

I don't know of a Green to Blue program. However, in the early 2000's (after 9-11) there was a Blue to Green program. There are several AFSC's that are looking troops with Army type backgrounds. Security Forces would be one of them. But I would have him do his homework before he decides an a AFSC. The good news is that he should not have to attend basic training.

I loved basic training...and I'm sure after being in the Army for almost 3 years, he's gonna need it!

Just to let you know, the only recruits that go into the INFANTRY in the Army, are not high in the score department...There are many levels of "infantry" however, as I was in the infantry but my scores indicated that I be trained in Mortars, and also being in Air Assault I wasn't an 11B. If your son wants to join another branch after the Army, I don't understand why after being in the Army all this time he hasn't looked into this request on his OWN, instead of his Mommy doing it for him. That may be a problem right there...

I was simply gathering information. Pvt please be respectful here. I have not at all interfered will what he does in the army. So before you infer that again you'd better back up and think again. My son us not familiar with how other branches are run, I was simple asking questions. I would appreciate constructive informative answers to this question instead of questioning my parenting.

This was a completely disrespectful and uneducated response. First of all, the infantry is full of intelligent Soldiers. Many people choose it based on life long desires or family history. As the Army uses more and more technology, and requires more responsibility of lower ranking Soldiers, the need for highly intelligent personnel in all fields is more important than ever. Plus, the best way to get through life is with a strong family support system. As the lowest ranking Private possible, you have no idea what you are talking about. Also, your comment about not being an 11B since you are Air Assault doesn't make sense since Air Assault is Light Infantry, which have always been 11B even before the merge with mechanized. It makes me question whether you really are Infantry.
