Is this a RallyPoint security glitch or just a privacy settings issue?

I was having a back and forth discussion with a member on a question. His name appears simply as SSG Servicemember. I am a verified retiree, so I assume that the name is blocked due to his privacy settings.
But then, when that member upvoted a post I made, I received in email that had as the subject line "first name" upvoted your comment". Then, when I was mentioned in a post by that same member, I got an email that said "first name last name" mentioned you in a post. So it appears that despite what settings are set in the privacy settings, when the notification emails go out, names that should be hidden are in fact disclosed.
Is this a security glitch, or is it a separate setting somewhere about what is shown in an email versus what is shown on the site?

There is a draw back to hiding your ID. If you have friends out there that are searching for other friends they wont find you. For instance I continue to search out members that served on board the USS Enterprise from 1977 to 1980, the same time as I did in hopes of making contact with guys I served with and IF you hide your profile/Identity they cant located you.

Sir, I know I am the SSg you are referring to. As SSG James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" stated, it does have something to do with my privacy settings, which is set so only my contacts can see my full name or certain other information. I am a verified member just so you know, and I am enjoying our dialogue in the other forum. BTW, I have sent you a friend request if you so choose to accept, which you'll then be able to see me in full.

SSG Carlos Madden - Well, it's your site Iguess, but I think your reasoning is completely flawed. If I have my privacy settings set so only verified members can see my name, why in the world would RP feel that if I happen to reply to a comment from an unverified member, or I upvote a comment from an unverified member, that he suddenly has the right to see my name. Or maybe I only want my contacts to see my full name. Frankly, that logic seems ridiculous to me. Basically what you are saying is that if a member chooses to engage in any way on the site, by either replying to a comment or upvoting a comment, then they are automatically waiving their privacy settings. IMO, that's absurd.

LTC (Join to see) - We understand and we're discussing a change, however this has to be done on the software side and is more of a long term fix. In the meantime we want to be fully transparent about how the current system works.

SSG Carlos Madden - OK. I'd suggest then that you start a thread (or answer, or whatever) that alerts people to this new disclaimer and seeks input on whether it's worth fixing in the software. I just think right now a lot of people are under the impression that their privacy settings work throughout the site, when in fact they don't. I think it's worth announcing that, since no existing users are likely to go back and read that page in the support section since they won't realize anything has changed.

SSG Carlos Madden, I agree with LTC (Join to see) but I do understand it's a software issue. Definitely something that needs to be fixed though.
