Am I correct in saying that specific dates of time lost (or nature of time lost, IAW 10 U.S. Code § 972) are to be included in Block18/Remarks of the SM's DD214?

Yes. It applies for AWOLSs, incarcerations, and any other non-authorized absence from the duty day.

Ok thank you Sir. I was asking for an individual who’s DD214 depicts a lesser net active service but block 18 does not describe the time lost.

S/he already knows why the lost time SGT (Join to see). If not on the DD214 then a copy of the entire record is needed.

SGT (Join to see) sometimes it is just a miscalculation or a typo. Never trust the net service time calculation, the Separation section at MPD does make occasional mistakes. A good way to check is to pull then up in emilpo and look for SM non-availability codes with dates during that time, or you can pull up the SSN in MS51 and look in the previous transactions for a BASD change, or in Retain for an ETS change.

Yes correct, SGT (Join to see) AR635-8 states " (3) Block 12c: Net Active Service This Period. Amount of service this period, computed by subtracting block 12a from
12b. Lost time under 10 USC 972 and noncreditable time after ETS, if any, are deducted. Lost time will be listed in block 29; other noncreditable time will be identified in block 18. "

AR 635-5 stated in the last sentience of para 2–4. Completing the DD Form 214, h , (12), (c)
" Lost time under 10 USC 972 and non-creditable time after ETS, if any, are deducted. Such time will be identified in block 18."
BUT AR 635-5 no longer active having been replaced with AR635-8
