I ran into two NCOs wearing undershirts outside and told them they could not go into the px and had to change as per 8th army regulations. I asked one if he was a Soldier and he replied "I'm an NCO" and it made me wonder, when and why did that become a disparity? Why do so many NCO's and Officer's not think of themselves as Soldiers?

Definition of soldier:
1.somebody serving in army: somebody who serves in a military organization
2.army member below officer rank: a member of an army, of a rank below commissioned officer
3.dedicated worker: somebody who works with dedication for a cause
The definition above is what I found somewhere in the web.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I personally say this: (Army)
For war purposes: A solider is anyone who picks up a weapon, points it at you with the intent to kill you or those around you.
This includes children (Civilians) if need to under this definition alone.
As cold hearted as my definition may sound, it is a fact. Your either going to take that one down or they will take you down 6ft under the ground.

The father of a friend of mine was a Marine officer during the war. I remember that he always differentiated when talking about various island invasions. He would say, and this was Tarawa I think, I went in with 5 officers, 135 Marines and 6 Corpsmen and came out with 1 Officer, 47 Marines and 1 Corpsman. So I guess not.

Just because u put a uniform on ... Does NOT make u a soldier... U choose a job knowing full well u will not use a weapon or be in imminent danger... But god bless all who signed the line!!

Were they on detail working outside? We've always been allowed to drop jacket when working outside on detail... but not for just hanging around or going into the PX. Walking into the PX sans jacket is a MAJOR no-go.

When you raise your hand in the beginning you become a soldier, in uniform or out of uniform your still a soldier in the Damn United States Army. As a NCO or an Officer your still a soldier at the core and that will never change.

I hate to say it but our army has lost much of its professionalism. NCOs are not the only ones. Many simply think that they got a tour in and they are the cats moew. They should have known better. That is what you get when you reduce the standards.

Wow, that's so sad what they said. Sounds like they forget that NCO stands for Non-Commissioned Officer. If he received such entitlement, he should've acted as that. What he said was utterly disgraceful. This is almost equivalent to STOLEN VALOR. I'd personally try to get his name and unit. If he'd decide to put resistance, I'd call base security

CPT (Join to see): Absolutely! We recite sailor's creed every time we have a meeting. It starts off with "I am a United States Sailor..."

I was a Sailor, I wore that title Proudly. I instilled pride and honor in that title with my Sailors and accepted nothing less in my peers. Although I retired in November I still believe I am a Sailor and will proudly be a Sailor until the day I die.

I sure hope so however, in my unit we will chapter them out if they cannot adapt to the Army lifestyle or become an Army Values violator.

Someone told me that they started calling e-4 and below "Warriors" or was that just something post specific? I know its easier to get someones attention by saying "excuse me, Solider" especially if you dont see the rank and then address them accordingly after.

I have never understood people like this, I was honored to be a Sailor specifically a Submariner. I don't really understand why you would let others or yourself cheapen the Title of Soldier, Sailor or Marine.

Sir,
Its not that they don't think they are soldiers, they just don't care about post policy. No one really does to be honest with you. When I was a private, I remember going to the PX on the weekend's unshaved. No one ever said anything or did anything, except the "Courtesy Patrol" whose job it was to bother soldiers on the weekend. Of all the soldiers and dependents in the PX at any given time, there's only 2 out of 100+ people in this building looking for you. Odd's are you are going to get away with it. That's why they give it a shot to begin with.
