Just received notice that I will be PCSing to Scott AFB, Illinois. Would anyone have any insight of the post as well what to expect?

Do you enjoy outdoor activities? Hunting, fishing, camping? Lots of places to go both in Illinois and Missouri. St. Louis is only about an hour away (give or take) and Rend Lake is about the same the other way. Lots of nice friendly people in the area.

Don't know much about the base but I lived in Southern Illinois part of my youth. Plenty of great fishing holes down that way and also great hunting if you are into that. My brother (A Marine like me) was in the hospital there for six to eight weeks following an automobile accident while on leave. They took good care of him while he was there. I hope you don't need to use the hospital like he did though!

I worked at Scott from 1988 - 2013. In that time I worked at USTRANSCOM, AMC, and SDDC. Still live near the Base. Most Army IT personnel work for J6 at USTC or G6 at SDDC. There’s also a HQ AF and DISA presence on base. The base is very nice. Good facilities and contract housing. On base kids go to school in Mascoutah schools. Pretty good schools. Many base personnel live in surrounding towns. O’Fallon is popular and has good schools. Belleville has many nice subdivisions. Schools aren’t as good. Several Universities offer on base classes. St Louis is about 30 mins away. Offers pro sports, great zoo and art museum, world class medical centers. Typical central US 4-season weather. Military friendly communities.
