It'll be interesting to see how big the contempt of court will be.

Also interesting to see how soon the Kentucky AG appoints a special prosecutor to look into impeachment (it's an elected position).

Yes, in Kentucky. The county district attorney has filed a charge of "official misconduct" with the state attorney general as well.

County clerk is an elected position everywhere in the US I've ever lived, with the exception of Rhode Island. We have counties, but no county government.

Civil contempt and jail until she complies with the judge's order, she resigns, or she loses an election. Impeachment and removal is also a possibility.

The feds have already taken the power from states that voted to oppose same sex marriage. By that logic, the next step will be to make marriage licenses a federal document.

yeah the federal gov also took away from the states the rights to discriminate against African Americans in the late 1960s.

SSG Kemper, I downvoted you because that's the same old tired argument every other unwise individual brings out. Non-humans and humans that are not adults have no legal standing to sign marriage contracts, so will you please get the @#$@#$ off that nag already?? You're beating a dead horse.

CW3 (Join to see) It was kinda a joke for SFC Mark Merino there, Chief. But thanks for sharing your opinion, particularly that "...@#$@#$ off that nag" stuff ....gonna use that in some subsequent posts, fo' sho'. And thanks for my first down vote, as I recall. And I sincerely thank for your service and hope you and family are well.

Feel free to use the phrase wherever and whenever you like. I didn't invent it, so I can't take credit for it.

You know there were/are plenty of laws that I didn't/don't agree with but I still enforced them. When you are an officer of the court you do not have the option of picking and choosing what laws to enforce. This lady needs to be cited for contempt and then fired. IMO

Don't take this the wrong way, but I wonder if the Germans felt the same way when Hitler was in power.

I am all for someone standing firm in their beliefs. Following your beliefs is understandable and respectable, however you have to choose rather those beliefs are more important to you than your job. If the job is more important, put your beliefs to the side and do your job. If your beliefs are more important and preventing you from doing your job, then its time to put the job to the side and follow your beliefs. If you are incapable of making this decision on your own, especially after an order from the supreme court, then it is time to have the decision made for you.

Regardless of your religious feelings, it is now the law for same sex marriages. If she refuses, she is in violation of the law and as such, should be punished. Just because she is the county clerk, does not mean she is above the law.

personally, I stand with the clerk, put in her shoes I would do basically the same thing. SCOTUS overstepped their bounds on this one, but I want to hear everyone elses opinions too

SGT John Rauch I think she'll eventually be put out of office, bro. Wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't get fined by the Federal judge. But I'm sympathetic with the Christian view that marriage is between a man and woman. I guess she's doing the best she can given the situation. I'm glad I am not in the same position she is in. Guess it will all play out on national TV? Interesting topic and thanks for sharing it. We have a 3 hour news talk radio program out of Knoxville and well over half the program this morning was devoted to this topic. The host (Hallerin Hilton Hill) called the Clerk's office during the broadcast (about 815 eastern time) and you could hear the shouting in the background as he spoke with one of the secretary's. Pretty amazing really. Take it easy and be safe.

There is a deeper issue here. If same sex partners want equality. They should be pushing for polygamy too. It would only be "fair." Kim Davis is only doing what our Government, including Presidents have done since our Country's creation. They cherry pick which laws to enforce. In most part, due to an idiotic political environment. IMO

Why should someone who doesn't want polygamy be pushing it?
