I'm a Specialist in the Guard. During my IET I felt a sense of purpose and pride for what I was doing and it felt great. But now it seems like all of that has gone away. I only joined the guard when I was young because I planned on switching to AD once I got married but of course the Guard won't real ease me. The Guard just isn't enough for me, I feel like I could be doing more but I'm stuck in the Guard. Any advice or help with possibly getting on active duty? Thanks in advance.

SPC (Join to see) You should be able to speak with an active duty recruiter about your options. When is your regular enlistment up and what is your MOS? That may play a big part in what you can and can't reenlist for on Active Duty. There are a lot of Recruiters out here on RP, so hopefully one of them willo chime in.
Maybe one of these recruiters or former recruiters can help you out with some additioinal advice. These are RP Members that I'm connected with:

How can I get out of the guard onto active duty? I have tried the conditional release route already.

I think that your own well-being will be best served by making the best of your current experience. In my long career in the Reserve, I have found that you get what you put into it.
I will comment on the DD368 not being approved. It sounds very much like you have resistance to releasing you in your immediate CoC. Conditional releases are routinely approved unless there are disciplinary issues or a pending deployment. "Lost" packets leads me to look closer to home for the reasons why you are not being released.
Good luck, SPC (Join to see)

I do know my unit doesn't want me to leave. Not trying to look conceited at all, but my leaders tell me I am one of the few soldiers in the unit that care about what gets done. Although I appreciate their support, I don't want that to be the reason why I'm not able to further my career by going active duty.

Sometimes we lose sight of what is important. We as leaders are stewards of the whole Army, not just our little piece of it. It is good that they view you as a go to Soldier. Now you need to communicate your goals and get support. They should support you, if you are clear with them.
Holding on too tightly only makes more Soldiers slip through their fingers...

Why do you say the NG won't release you? Have you submitted a conditional release to them? Have you actually gone to the AD recruiting yet?

Denied by you commander? You simply take it to the commander above him. If the one above him denies it, you talk to IG who will give you guidance as to whether the denial follows policy or not.

They told me it was denied by the battalion commander, if that's the case then it wasn't actually sent all the way up to the TAG.

So you never actually received it back? That is a very valid IG complaint. It's supposed to either be approved or disapproved and returned to you. It sounds like someone simply said no, and did not bother following through with it.

Is your unit admin the sole POC for this so far? What discussions have you had with your Chain? I have several ideas of how to go about this but without a clear picture of what has or has not taken place, I don't want to throw out suggestions. Often though, one has to make sure that their Chain understands what the ramifications are for the Soldier and, ultimately, how that plays into their organizational strength and readiness. Usually when conditional releases are "denied" I've found that it rarely goes beyond the UA's and they know they can string that out between drills for several months until the SM losses interest or is frustrated to the point of just not trying any longer. I am not stating that is what is happening here-just that I have seen that game happen several times.
Your Active Duty recruiter should offer to have his company commander have a convo with yours and ascertain for certain where the choke point is. I'm sure the recruiting battalion commander would be willing to do the same with your BC if necessary. That should clear the log jam or identify what their objections are.

The guard will release you if you have a Conditional Release from a Recruiter. You have to do it the right way and let the cards fall where they may. I helped 3 Airmen out of the Reserves through Conditional Releases and even had one (for me) to go back into the Navy, but decided to Retire.

I felt the same way, 31 years ago. Loved and hated all my active years. Don't let anyone say you can't. If possible, see about a transfer to another guard unit that isn't as lax. There are many good guard units left.

Check with a recruiter on the availability of Active Duty spots for prior service, "get out" of the Guard when your time expires, and go to the recruiter the next day. They can't stop that...
