Members of the Philippine National Police Special Action Forces load bodies of police commandos into vehicles in Maguindanao yesterday. More than 40 police commandos were killed in a fierce battle with Muslim guerrillas after launching an assault in which they may have killed one of southeast Asia's most-wanted terrorists, officials said yesterday. PO2 Ed C.

Was this a terroristic act and should we care?

When I first saw this I misinterpreted the acronym "MILF," and my first thought was whether or not she had been provoked....

Haha, I had to read that headline twice. I totally mistook the acronym MILF. That's a Marine for you.

I am glad that I was not the only one demented enough to choose that path when I read the heading.
A sick mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Nope, they attacked a police "Special Action Force" who were in enough strength to cause 40 KIA, and on a mission to kill/capture an enemy HVT. That's a well executed ambush on an opposing armed force, regardless of the motives or politics on the two involved.

This kind of gets to the point of my discussion, What is Terrorism?

Police commandos launched an assault against guerrilla's and suffered heavy casualties... does terror now mean any violence involving Muslims? If the Guerrilla's attacked a shopping mall and killed civilians, then yes it would be terrorism... combat between armed groups on the other hand is clearly not terrorism.

I believe in calling an apple an apple and an orange an orange... I also believe that any insurgency waged in a country where any citizen can run for office and people can vote for their leaders is illegitimate and shut be shut down with extreme prejudice. My sympathies are with the commandos and the losses they suffered.

I am opposed to all forms of religious extremism worldwide, I recognize that the vast majority of violent religious extremists are Muslim... however I do not believe it's appropriate to single out one religion when all of them are capable of spawning violent religious extremism.

The police are legitimate. That's not to say they do not have corruption because that would be false but the victims are the cops. The extreme prejudice of reshooting people was over the top.

SSgt (Join to see) It's a vile and criminal act... however I doubt it's that uncommon in situations like this. The cops are heroes because they put their lives on the line for their country, I don't see them as victims though.

Seeing as both groups were prepared for battle (one less, one more) it was clearly not a "Terrorist Attack" and I applaud the press for not saying it was. We hear EVERY DAY for the past years about Islamic "Terror" and "attacks" I cant see it any longer, it is usually overstated or flat out wrong...but it sells more newspapers and gains more viewers.

But you see this IS Islamic terror. Why is this country so cowardly when atrocious acts of violence are colored by a bunch of denials. All good until the next time when Islamic violence is not called for what it is. The whole point here is to take down that element who does damage weekly if not more.. I bet PO2 Ed C. understands this all too well.

Actually this is not Islamic Terror, arbitrarily (and out of emotional hate) labeling any and all such actions by Muslims as terror attacks is irresponsible and adds to the many problems we have in the world today.
This was a clearly tactical operation in which both sides were involved; One was in a bomb hunting scenario and the other ambushed them; That clearly equals an operation.
It woudl interest you to know that some of the killed LOEs were Muslim, does that make them terrorists?
I understand the hate, I do, I was there, I fought, I know the deep down feeling of wanting to cleanse the world of all and every scumbag extremest, and yes I was the type to condemn all Muslims also...that is wrong and will not solve our problems, it actually creates more problems though disenfranchising non violent Muslims into violent Muslims.
The mighty sword is not always the best weapon, heck we have been trying for over 10 years and it is worse now then it ever was...that comes from somewhere, it comes through the hate we produced in our actions, to which I also contributed.
We need a new way, blanket hate will never work.
I respect your opinion and I understand it, I cant make you do the same to mine, I only ask you ponder the statement for a moment before answering, if you answer.
Steady on!
Steven
