I actually had a class with my soldiers about social media, which all leaders should, but make sure you are telling them what matters.

- How to make a profile private
- How to separate pictures into folders
- How to add individuals to groups
- Using groups to restrict access to a certain folder (i.e. have one folder with all your boozing and chasing girls, then put all your CoC, Family, etc.. in a group and restrict them from viewing photos.
- Also, make sure you always have your status set to "Custom" instead of Public, Friends Only, or Friends of Friends. By using custom, you can exclude that group you just created from viewing anything you post (Pictures, gripes, etc..)

Then there's the easy solutions.
Don't use social media at all or, Make your profile private, don't add random NCO's and soldier's. Just add people who you know are your friends. Real friends will inform you when you should take things down, random soldiers and NCO's you add will just tell on you.

I sure hope no one is surprised by this. Leaders (military and civilian) have been monitoring social media since the advent of social media. As I've always said, if you are going to post anything on the internet, you should have ZERO expectation of privacy.

Service members should remember, you are entitled to have your own personal opinion...but sometimes, that opinion should stay in your own personal mind! We are professionals, and should at all times conduct ourselves that way. It's ok to disagree with someone's ideals, they are entitled to their own opinion. But there is no need to disparage each other. And it's good that our senior leader's check in on us from time to time. It offers them and unfiltered view of the masses.
