This has been my theory all week, if you have been following my posts on the subject. On this one, I think Putin has hit the issue squarely.
However, the Russians are not innocent. It is not an accident that they were in Turkish territory, and the SU-24 shot down was targeting ethnic Turk FSA elements at the time, not ISIS as they originally claimed.
I think if we follow the money on that oil smuggling, it will point in some very uncomfortable directions.

Sooner or later, the truth about just how connected the two fiascos known as Libya and Syria are will come out.

Is there some Black Market Shenanigans going on, on the border Sure but I suspect more of Historical reason. Turks have placed a lot of there own folks in other countries on their Southern Borders to Protect their Interests, Business, Cultural or Otherwise. My Bet would be to Protect Syrian Turks.

Bab el-Mandeb is a key chokepoint for global crude and needless to say, just about the last thing Saudi Arabia (or the West for that matter) wanted to see was an Iranian proxy army taking control of one side of the corridor. (LINK): https://youtu.be/xRajP0VxxFs
