I am currently at Fort Stewart, GA, for some training. Shout out to those Dog Faced Soldiers! But I have been to many bases and I have never heard so many bugle calls in my life, this also includes the playing of the 3rd ID song every morning. I swear I have seen people just sprint off when they hear a call because they don't know what to do. So far I have found that this post does 13 bugle calls. Fort Bragg got nothing on this place.

I loved 29 Palms. It was so pretty, really enjoyed hiking and exploring Jousha Tree national park. Close enough for shopping in Palm Springs or hang out in Vegas on weekends.

I really liked Bragg. I don't know why anyone could not like it.

I HATE going to Walter Reed in Bethesda. The charlie foxtrot that is traffic there is horrendous. I live about 35 miles from Bethesda and it would would often take me 2+ hours to get home. Then you add that there is ZERO parking, and it makes for my least favorite base.

I did 9 years at Bethesda total. It was the Marc train and metro the entire time. It was a mess for sure if you drove. Us rail commuters had to take our chances crossing Rockville Pike to get to the metro everyday. Some crazy drivers on that road!

I love Walter Reed Bethesda. There's nothing wrong with doing the MARC/Metro commute and now they are building a tunnel under Rockville Pike directly into the Metro station.

SGM (Join to see) - 1SG Gilley is a friend of mine. It is called a joke. If you think we all should be 100% serious all the time then maybe social media isn't the place for you. If you were to see me hide then I would expect to get called out on it. But I'm sure even you have made a joke once or twice. I'll just make sure to not walk on your grass.

CPT (Join to see) - I can get a joke and have a great sense of humor. It's not apparent from you comment that you and he are friends and that you are joking, so I assumed your comment was serious. You wouldn't be the first person I'd heard that from! So if you were joking, Ha Ha, I apologize for calling you out so harshly. Mea culpa. And don't walk on my grass. I don't have a sense of humor about that!

SGM (Join to see) - Maybe I should have aimed it better. But as you can see in my profile I have been around a minute in the Army. I would say the same thing if I thought they were serious. No worries.

I'm sorry. Saluting for reveille?! That's like saluting your alarm clock...
Morning colors, and evening colors rate a salute. That's it.

My sons there now, going on 3 years. He hates it, the traffic sucks badly, but he escaped from Drum. The -25 winters and endless snows were undesirable with a young family.

Ok, so my story doesn't really pertain to the any specific post/base. But, it does pertain to bugle calls.

So, there I was...
Driving my kids (Army Brats) and their friends (Air Force Brats) to a function on an Lackland AFB. I hear "Retreat" start being played. I pull over, stop the car, and get out. My kids follow suit and get out. Their AF friends are siting in the car. I tell them to get out and place their hand over their heart. They comply. When we get back in they ask why they had to get out? I told them it was to show respect to the flag. Come to find out AF doesn't get out of their vehicle, they only pull over and stop.

Same with the Navy. We stop and stay in our cars. Main reason: it's a safety issue.

At Air Force training bases that is the norm. I was stationed at Wright Patterson for 7 and a half years and a full three on night shift and never heard retreat once!

I don't remember ever hearing a bugle call while I was in the AF. Even in basic were woken with a voice over the intercom "0500 GET UP, GET UP, GET UP" followed by the TI coming down the aisle between the beds hollering at the top of his lungs.

Yes, Fort Stewart was notorious for all of the calls. You can ask my dad MSgt (Join to see) when he visited us. Plus singing the Dog Face Soldier song every day! Not to mention the whole "Rock of the Marne" "Top of the Rock" thing. I still remember the first time the gate guard said that to me. I was like "Ok" Rock of the Marne back at you. LOL
