Everyone hears stories of military members coming up with 'brilliant' ideas that end up saving the DoD millions of dollars. I'd like to hear some real examples of ones you've seen implemented in your units. Or maybe one you've been waiting to tell everyone about...

Outstanding idea 1SG (Join to see). And looks like it proved to be a life saver. Was this idea ever passed along to any other units?

Sir we had a lot of little tricks of the trade. It was passed up to JIEDO. They passed it around throughout theaters.

It didn't save the Army millions of dollars but it was recognized by the Army as a great innovation. I had a S-4 NCOIC that wrote a mentor program for 92Y's called "Each one, Teach one"

That's even better than saving money. You're investing in the future of your troops.
I'm not familiar with that program. Can you break down the highlights for me?

I'm going to have to link to my podcast to answer this, but an Aviation Technician named Rich Walsh created a program to save the Navy hundreds of millions.

There are also many other stories in the series of innovation projects led from mostly junior personnel.

22: Enlisted Innovator Saves Millions with AT1 Rich Walsh
AT1 Walsh was quickly pulled from the ranks of the CRICx to the CRIC. Our talk explains the project and its importance, why supply may not be as bad as we think (at least according to Rich), and even CPO 365 training. Stick around after the outtro...there's a pretty good story at the end you won't want to miss. The CNO's Rapid Innovation Cell is an organization of 15 junior officers and enlisted. Its goal is to empower and enable emerging...

Capt Brandon Charters - I put in a suggestion that the Air Force use both sides of the old yellow teletype paper, basically cutting costs for paper.

A full service wide change. That's impressive! It's amazing how a simple change can save thousands and sometimes millions of dollars. There is a real benefit of PCSing the force often. We get a chance to put a fresh set of eyes on old problems every 6 months!

I even reconnoitered the Mercurial Barometer SOPs to make it easier to use. It was the basis for standardizing all barometers, Aneroid, Microbarograph and their uses for SLP, MSP and Pressure Altitude. Important stuff right there... I validated the FMH-3 (Weather Balloon) SOP as well. That for stability indices, convective temperatures, Jet Stream analysis, etc. Capt Brandon Charters

It wasnt so much a money saving idea but was a hell of a lot of fun !!! we wanted to do night time weapons qualification but had no way to illuminate the range for long periods so our cpt sent some of us out to get a few items and we wound up making napalm and shot it from a home made cannon onto a cliff wall directly adjacent to the range, Lights !!! camera !!! action !!!!!! the range is no longer clear !!!!!!!
