Ah yes, we've all seen them; "so, there you were" in a theater or a room full of service members or veterans, one minute everything's ok, then all of a sudden there it is... the over-the-top military movie discrepancy! So, what was that moment that stands out most in your mind? What are those associated memories or stories that come to mind? Did the base theater erupt into 'chaos' over an unkempt/incorrect uniform, improper language/jargon/ customs, or was there something that was just plain 'unsat' from a military point-of-view. lol Well, there's a ton of them out there, and I'm pretty sure that something should immediately come to mind, so what are we waiting for? Quick, pull up a keyboard, and let's get this thing started; thanks for all that you do, and... see you all in the discussion threads!

My wife will not watch military moves with me. Top Gun is at the top of my list. It was one funny movie

Are you trying to tell me that Top Gun was not a documentary? Navy guys don't always play beach volly ball and flex like that for each other?

Also, why would they need an astrophysicist (Kelly McGillis) at Top Gun? Do pilots need to know how stars convert hydrogen to helium using nuclear fusion? Is the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram somehow relevant to flying?

The Karate Kid II, when Miyagi-san and Daniel are on Kadena AB and call the A1C they're asking directions from, Corporal :)

E-3 (Airmen 2d Class) were originally called Corporal for about 5 years after AF split from Army and E-4 ( Airmen 1st Class) were Sergeant. Heck, I still forget and call a Senior Airman Sergeant sometimes.

Sir one of my biggest pet peeves was in the movie "Pearl Harbor" when Josh Harnett yells out "I think World War II just started." Sir he yells this in the middle of the Japanese attack....I highly doubt that any more the men would have yelled that out at any point during the war.
Not only that Sir but whenever I watch the movie with my dad he can point out things that are inaccurate about every 2.5 minutes. So i would throw that entire movie up there.

O the movie was horrible as far as giving people a history lesson. Just another tale from Hollywood that needed a dramatic background.

my favorite f*** up is the pilots manning the M2 Browning on the way to thier planes-without a tripod, just a .50 caliber machine gun from the hip no biggie right?

The PX in Danang was, I believe, the only air conditioned building in the country, so if you were in the area, you would go and sit in the cool and watch what ever crap they put on the screen. I remember watching over the silhouettes of heavily armed muddy grunts, M60 and M16 barrels sticking into the air. John Wayne's "The Green Berets" was playing and the entire movie was endless catcalls and outrageous laughter at the absurdities portrayed. I Corps Danang was after all, primarily Marine country.

The movie Basic with John Travolta is one that I cannot watch due to the screw ups. At one point you have Samuel L Jackson character wearing Master Sgt rank, however when the camera cuts off, than returns to him he is a Specialist.

That blew my mind. I was pretty irritated with that movie. The storyline was pretty cool though.

I know you have to be bad ass at your craft to make MSG, but you must be something really special to also get a cape.

not military movie, but in the 2009 Star Trek reboot, Kirk goes from being a cadet to Captain. seriously? I don't care what you do, no military is going to promote anyone from cadet to O6. Same movie, they can't make up their mind if Uhura is a cadet or an LT.

How about the most accurate scene? Boys in Company C. They were out on patrol and the Lt. asks one of the soldiers what smells so bad. He says it's them they haven't had a shower in a month (or something like that). That is so real life.

Hey...that's a good movie! LOL j/k I totally didn't love this movie as a teenager. That was some other kid. What a geek he was...not me though, certainly not.

Obviously what we are seeing here is Mr. T as a Mohawk Indian who has been given a French coat by a grateful French officer for services rendered during the 7 Years War aka the French and Indian Wars...The ear ring would still however most likely be anachronistic :)

Not a discrepancy, but an accuracy! Blackhawk Down (2001). Infantrymen running, carrying everything including the kitchen sink and falling down on their face. Most accurate thing I think I've seen about the true Infantry experience. Falling down because your are carrying too danged much stuff, and you rolled your ankle, dislocated your knee, lost your balance, the Earth tilted out from under you suddenly, or for whatever reason.
