Ah yes, we've all seen them; "so, there you were" in a theater or a room full of service members or veterans, one minute everything's ok, then all of a sudden there it is... the over-the-top military movie discrepancy! So, what was that moment that stands out most in your mind? What are those associated memories or stories that come to mind? Did the base theater erupt into 'chaos' over an unkempt/incorrect uniform, improper language/jargon/ customs, or was there something that was just plain 'unsat' from a military point-of-view. lol Well, there's a ton of them out there, and I'm pretty sure that something should immediately come to mind, so what are we waiting for? Quick, pull up a keyboard, and let's get this thing started; thanks for all that you do, and... see you all in the discussion threads!

Watching John Q with my wife when he is about to kill himself the 9 mm beretta has the hammer locked to the rear and when him pulls the triggers it goes click and he realizes the safety is on. The hammer won't lock to the rear on safe and there is no click you you pull the trigger either. Even my wife caught it (I was so proud lol).

Did you also notice when he racked the slide to the rear and pointed it at his head, only to have him eject an empty mag later? The M9 won't do that. Empty mag, the slide would have stayed locked back.

My personal favorite is from Independence Day the scene where Will Smith is telling his girl friend why he has to go back to the base. The epaulets on his uniform switch up so often (under or over the collar) that you'd swear that they were doing it on purpose just to screw with us.

SGT Knispel, good one, the epaulet in question makes a special guest appearance, at minute 0:09 in this trailer! lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDtTe7gJnAo

Independence Day starring Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum. Irrelevant trailer shown on UK channel E4.

Ok this has always bothered me...in Down Periscope there's a couple scenes where Nitro the Electrician's Mate has to make some connections using his fingers and toes to bare wires to complete the circuit...
He's totally doing that wrong. I can tell you as an Electrician's Mate that you can't simply lick your fingers, you have to use some dielectric grease to facilitate the proper connection.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. It's been bothering me for years now!

As a former Airman and current Soldier, Down Periscope is one of my favorite Navy movies. ;)

There are so many movies to name here, but one movie that isn't particularly a military movie is "Evolution". When the military takes over the alien site, you have numerous "movie discrepancies" popping out at you.
One thing I can honestly remember, is my dad telling me that I will never watch a movie the same again after joining the military. He is retired AF and I always wondered why he kept saying that's wrong, or that would never happen in military films.

Nail on the head. Movies are different after military service. Listening to the 20 something kids that want to argue that the "nuclear handgrenaid blast" is real... I had to laugh at myself looking backwards to seeing movies prior to infantry, that I thought were well made...

The "Hurt Locker" movie was a great (awful) example. So many uniform violations AND the EOD tech doing stuff that was absolutely ridiculous. I think I remember seeing one"soldier" in that movie wearing a subdued cloth US flag on BOTH shoulders of his ACU top, among other things.

I was a B-52 Troop when that movie came out, it was wrong then too, and was a fun night at the base theater

I cut movies some slack if it at least looks like they've made an attempt at making things realistic. I have a case of the ass when it is obvious that the attempt was poor (or non-existent). I understand if the plot may not necessarily be plausible, but at least make it VISUALLY realistic.
