With the Marines at Tarawa. The MC got the Academy Award for Documentary Short Subject. President Roosevelt had to authorize the release of the film for public consumption. No acting anywhere. It was the real thing.

Just watched it. I never seen anything quite like that. i've seen documentaries and WWII footage but that just had a whole new feel to it.

Good choice. Certainly very real and intense.

We Were Soldiers is pretty damn good.

Full Metal Jacket, also very real.

Saving Private Ryan, VERY real, too...

I am a Marine. I earned it, and I also earned the right to wear that cover.

Bring on the clowns.

What made you ask that question anyway? I do mind. I'd like to hear what prompted that.

I'll list a couple of my favorites, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, Black Hawk Down, Lone Survivor, and We Were Soldiers Once and Young...Band of Brothers really sets the standard...but Full Metal Jacket resonates well with me. My bunk mate in Bootcamp was a Gomer Pyle, and thanks to me I helped get him out...or that would of been me with the rifle. I'm so glad I watched that right before going to Basic. I'm probably forgetting a few movies...just recently watched Green Beret with John Wayne...it was a different time. Restrepo was a long but legit documentary film...sort of boring, but war does have boredom.

What about a Few Good Men? Realistic or not?

Hmmm. Hard to say. From my perspective (and fuzzy memory of the movie) it wasn't too bad. I'm not a Marine so I can't speak to that aspect but from an enlisted man's eyes, the Naval Officer stuff seemed to be reasonably realistic.

Actually without being a Naval Aviator it'd be hard to call foul on Top Gun either. The only thing I found far fetched was how much the "Maverick" character was allowed to get away with.

Keep in mind I haven't seen either movie in years!
