Sorry SPC Bergseid but the hurt locker wasn't all that real to me, every time we came upon a ied and put our distance between it and us we would get (EOD) to check it and to dispose of it.
not one time did i ever see a soldier dressed in bomb removal gear defuse it and carry it away never.
EOD would send in the big robot or the small robot first and remove it if it was possible or blow it in place...OIF 3 2004-2005 CAMP LIBERTY IRAQ 1-156 ARMOR BATTALION 256 INFANTRY BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM.....THIS IS THE 2 TANK CREWS OF HEADQUATERS COMPANY 1-156 ARMOR BN OF WHICH I WAS A CREWMEN...

With all the "Hurt Locker" mentions (puke, sorry, I will clean that up later) I am surprised no one has brought up "Green Zone" (Isn't Matt Damon just so adorable as a Warrant Officer?!?! LOL)

I have to admit that I did watch the whole movie, but it was the only movie playing at the Balad theater that night.

If you're willing to include television series, how about "Combat"?
If you look past the Germans driving U.S. military surplus vehicles and the cast regulars being unkillable, the stories and dialog had a definite feeling of authenticity.

if you go that route, then numberous documentaries fit the bill... Inside Combat Rescue is AMAZING as is Making the cut, both of which are on netflix might I add :)

SSG Maurice P., one other point in "COMBAT"'s favor is that (if I recall correctly) the producer and several production crew members were WWII veterans, and several of the storylines derived from some of their experiences in the ETO.

Starship Troopers obviously, only the first one though since the others don't exist.

I wish the first movie didn't exist, either.
I really liked the book -- not for any great military authenticity, but for being very thought-provoking about what it means to be a citizen or to be a soldier.

Paul Verhooven needs to be hauled into the international court in The Hague for crimes against humanity for what he did to Heinlein's master piece.

In my opinion the Hurt Locker was one of the most unrealistic military movies of all times. I was looking forward to watch this movie when it came out and it was very disapointing.

I agree. I have a buddy who was EOD, KIA 15APR02 OEF, and was hoping to get a small glimpse in to his role over there and was sadly disappointed.

In terms of Documentaries, I would have to say Restrepo and Korengal.
If looking at purely movies: Saving Private Ryan, Blackhawk Down or Lone Survivor

I'm going with Lone Survivor. I watched Hurt Locker and laughed my ass off, I got about 15 minutes and almost tossed it.

Surprised an OIF veteran would consider The Hurt Locker realistic, but if you never left the wire with combat arms then I can understand how it could be misinterpreted as such. The Hurt Locker did a damned good job of representing what urban Iraq looks like as it completely nails the setting and atmosphere. It just utterly fails in about every other regard.

SGT ROBERTSON I TOO WENT OUTSIDE THE WIRE AS A COMBAT ARMS SOLDIER EITHER AS A 19K (M-1 ARMOR CREWMAN)SCHOOL TRAINED OR AS A 11B (DISMOUNT IN GUNTRUCKS)SCHOOL TRAINED IN OIF 3 2004-2005 WE LOST 16 SOLDIERS AND 3 IRAQI INTERPRETERS IN THE ARROS MARKET AREA...THE HURT LOCKER WAS HOLLYWOOD BULLSHIT BUT YOU WERE RIGHT IT DID SET THE MOOD AND ATMOSPHERE THOSE SCENES FELT REAL NOT THE SOLDIER DISARMING IEDS LIKE HE WAS THE DUKE THERE WAS ONLY 1 JOHN WAYNE HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE

- The Great Raid - the story of one of the few successful raids to rescue POWs. The raid was shot all at once with the actors executing an operations order.
