Murica? Do you think that it is right for College Students to say Pledge Against the USA?

I have said it all along but this is just part of a populace that is growing and that is anti-USA. I think it is time for us to put a reality hat and stop with the partisan shenanigans of a small portion of this society. Here below is the utter non-sense:
"If you sign up for Denver college professor Charles Angeletti's American Civilization class, be forewarned that you're going to have to recite his invective-filled 'New Pledge' -- and according to some of his students, also be ready to swallow a big helping of his politics.
Angeletti, who teaches at Metropolitan State University of Denver, has students learn an anti-American spoof of the Pledge of Allegiance that denounces the U.S. as a Republican-controlled bastion of injustice, all while spewing his own far-left brand of politics, according to current and former students.
“I pledge allegiance to and wrap myself in the flag of the United States Against Anything Un-American,” reads Angeletti's version. “And to the Republicans for which it stands, two nations, under Jesus, rich against poor, with curtailed liberty and justice for all except blacks, homosexuals, women who want abortions, Communists, welfare queens, treehuggers, feminazis, illegal immigrants, children of illegal immigrants, and you, if you don't watch your step.”
“We’re very racist, we’re very repressive, we’re very Christian oriented, we don’t tolerate other kinds of thinking in this country.”
- Charles Angeletti, professor at Metropolitan State University

What are your views other than it was Fox News? Are you really for America and this? Leave your voting cards at home...

He is free to say what he wants and I am free to think he's a disgrace for saying it.

If these students were forced to recite it and had a strong belief against it then exiting the class or staging a slient strike against it should have or could have been done. I think this professesor has some kind of agenda and maybe is a "radical" of some sort maybe working with someone or some bad people. But all I'm saying wouldn't hurt to have "big brother" check him out! Government !

Disgraceful. This is like spitting on the American flag, and it makes my skin crawl to know that so many of our brothers and sisters have shed their blood for this guy.

I don't know how schools allow professors and other educators to teach their own aggenda on school time. I don't get that, because some of those students are paying for that class to hear some liberal to teach them to be anti-American. I hope some of them can think for themselves.

Well here is my First Amendment view of this so called pledge, Professor Angeletti may kiss my arse. Not on the right side and not on the left, but right in the middle.

I think there's a glaring difference between being intelligent and being educated. And to round out the trifecta, there's a glaring difference between having common sense, being intelligent, and being educated..

My brother in law was in the German Army and decided to make a life long career being a student, the man was a brainiac on paper, but failed the common sense area totally, he bought himself a diesel and swore it was better than gas in every way, when he came to visit he left the damn thing running (for hours) and would try to argue that keeping it running used less fuel than stopping the motor and restarting it later. I ran him off one day with a baseball bat and told him never to come back.

Meh, I'm happy where I'm at. This guy can say whatever he wants, but unless he spends all his time feeding the homeless, developing a fund for women that can't afford abortions, getting people to convert to logic and reason, and writing his congressman everyday about social injustices and donating money and time to them, he's pretty much just another shit talker. But that's just my opinion

This is such a pointless discussion. If you don't agree with him, don't take his class. Fox's reporting of this fringe element in an attempt to make it seem like it's the norm only serves to be inflammatory. Ironically, it probably gives him the publicity he's looking for. I swear a majority of people are so damn simple-minded sometimes.

What's going on is more indicative of an academic perversion than a Fox conspiracy. Education seems to be trying to mold "minds of mush" into something of a 60's radical fantasy land.

LTC Martin Metz Colonel, you sayu "... Education seems to be trying to mold "minds of mush" into something of a 60's radical fantasy land." as if "education" hadn't been trying to mold "minds of mush" into "__[fill in the blank]__" since the first "school" was established.
The importance that some people attach to the current, officially approved, certified acceptable version of a "Christian Socialist"'s advertising gimmick (with a history stretching back into the dim, distant, past of the 1890s) can get rather amusing. Especially when that advertising gimmick is being used to indoctrinate children whose vocabularies don't even include all the words in it.
Quite frankly I'd be more concerned over the fact that a significant minority of the people in that professor's class probably couldn't spell all of the words of either version correctly or be able to use them in a properly constructed and meaningful sentence.

COL Ted Mc: I'm sure your exposure to learning (as was mine) was different than is now being done. Education should be teaching how to think rather than what to think. The prof mentioned seems to have an agenda which discourages probing questions and instead seems to be designed to compile cooperation.....or else. As you mentioned, it is far more important for teachers to provide the building blocks of a lifetime gain of knowledge with emphasis on vocabulary, complete depiction of history, life skills, etc., rather than touchy-feelly self-esteem stuff. Parents are defaulting to the schools for teaching values way too much now-a-days.

His personal rights are one thing. But as the professor in a course you have certain responsibilities.
I see what he is trying to get across as I read his "pledge", but a pledge is a serious thing. Pledges mean something. It is an oath of honor.
To force someone to "pledge" to anything is what I have a problem with. (Having said that, ironically I believe our kids should be saying the real pledge every morning in school...)

It seems that his REAL students do not think highly of him! Here are the ratings for this professor:

Personally, I would like to see him try to teach his class to a roomful of vets. I don't think he'll make it out the door...
