Profpledge copy
I have said it all along but this is just part of a populace that is growing and that is anti-USA. I think it is time for us to put a reality hat and stop with the partisan shenanigans of a small portion of this society. Here below is the utter non-sense:

"If you sign up for Denver college professor Charles Angeletti's American Civilization class, be forewarned that you're going to have to recite his invective-filled 'New Pledge' -- and according to some of his students, also be ready to swallow a big helping of his politics.

Angeletti, who teaches at Metropolitan State University of Denver, has students learn an anti-American spoof of the Pledge of Allegiance that denounces the U.S. as a Republican-controlled bastion of injustice, all while spewing his own far-left brand of politics, according to current and former students.

“I pledge allegiance to and wrap myself in the flag of the United States Against Anything Un-American,” reads Angeletti's version. “And to the Republicans for which it stands, two nations, under Jesus, rich against poor, with curtailed liberty and justice for all except blacks, homosexuals, women who want abortions, Communists, welfare queens, treehuggers, feminazis, illegal immigrants, children of illegal immigrants, and you, if you don't watch your step.”

“We’re very racist, we’re very repressive, we’re very Christian oriented, we don’t tolerate other kinds of thinking in this country.”
- Charles Angeletti, professor at Metropolitan State University

Honestly, I find this to be very disgusting. Even in countries where communism or a dictatorship is well and alive, reverence and loyalty to one's country is mandatory. I can not respect people like that professor.

Lets pull his funding for his arena, send his happy ass to lets say....Somalia and lets see how much he loves his new surroundings. Then listen to his change of tune. He is damn lucky that he has not been planted yet.

This guy is ultra-left right? So maybe see if he would fit in among modern socialists. (Liberals seem to deny their philosophical predecessors like Mao and Polpot.) Rather than pull the funding, I suggest allocating money for a South American sabbatical where our professor can experience the tolerance and acceptance exhibited by Marxist revolutionaries.

Sergeant, you do know that "Liberals" predated Mao and Pol Pot, don't you? You do know that the "Patriots" in the American Revolution were "Liberals", don't you? You do know that, on the global political scale, BOTH the Republicans and the Democrats are "right-wing" political parties, don't you? You do know that, of the "developed countries" the United States of America is the only one which believes in the ideological purity of allowing the sick and injured to suffer and die unless they have tons of money to pay for their care (proof of ability to pay required up front), don't you? You do know that one of the reasons why the statistics for the medical industry in the United States of America are so good is that almost all cases which make it look bad are excluded from consideration, don't you? (i.e. In its statistical reports, the American medical industry DOES NOT include in its calculations of "average wait time" those people who need the care but don't get it simply because they don't have the money to pay for it.)

Where I live now, a complete package of medical insurance [NO pre-existing condition exclusion, NO per person cap, NO annual cap, NO lifetime cap, complete freedom to chose any doctor I want (who is accepting patients)] for a family of three costs $95.00 per month. To get the same coverage in New York state (to pick a single example) and only pay the same percentage of my income for it, I would have to have a net after tax income of over $1,000,000 per year.

On the other hand, since "Obamacare" obviously doesn't work, we'll just have to wait until 2016 when the US can introduce "Romneycare". What with modern "Find & Replace" technology, it shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to write all the enabling legislation.

Stand resolute in the face of adversity, recite the real pledge of allegiance and remind him that he has his opinions and we have ours. The "makes students learn" part bothers me the most. Im fine with opinions, even the insane ones as I think thats part of what makes america great, but it concerns me if he made that apart of his curriculum. I would imagine a conversation with the dean would be in order as the resulting poo storm would be katrina level.

I hope this professor's class isn't a mandated prerequisite for follow on courses.

It's been my understanding that freedom of speech is for EVERYONE. You are entitled to your opinion. As am I. We are also entitled to disagree, call each other every obscenity under the sun, and debate/argue to a point just shy of physical abuse. Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean I have to care about it.

That being said, I will let the hate wash over me and the things I value. My parents brought me here because they thought I would have better opportunities for success. To date, they have not been wrong.

HEL NO!!! Disgusted that I had to regurgitate the Anti-American Crap being spewed by the history teacher as a graduation requirement. I was obniously unswayed but these poor kids right out of highschool were accepting his perverted view of American History. He was abusing his position of authority to push his Anti capitalist/socialist agenda and would berate any Christian who spoke up.

Sadly enough we have what seems to be educated people trying to justify this all. For what? To be contrary to people who believe in America. Thus that little 'Merica' insult that they like to hurl around so much.

I think if they want to pledge against this country .... let them, directly after they can give up their grants and positions in ROTC and give up their hopes of joining the military to pay their way through college or finding a job in this country who has bled for them and died for them to be able to live in such a unique country, I hear Iraq is now accepting applications for camel herders, Sand is included!!!!

I've seen this all before. I grew up during the tumultuous 60's and was commissioned in 74. It just looks like we are going retro right now. Do what you think is best, don't give credence to those pulling the walls down, and keep your gaze on the horizon. Eventually our ship of state rights itself. Don't despair, don't dwell.

It sounds like the "professor" could use a little civil disobedience in his classroom from his students! Beyond that, what he's doing needs to be dragged into the public visibility, and complaints need to be registered with the Administration. Perhaps some public rallies and sign picketing could be used. It's time to take Alinsky's principles and non-violently apply them to well deserving scum.

Yeah that civil disobedience works both ways especially in a time when political correctness basically dictates what one can say.

Good point Colonel. Free speech for all? I wonder how tolerant our erudite hippy would be if a pack of veterans were sitting in class. So, it seems some "free" speech is still informally restricted like in the anti-American culture of academia. A combat veteran who still gets misty eyed when the music plays at 1700 does not have a less valid opinion just because he's not dissenting and is taking regular showers.

One more thing for LT Vicente: I suggest you print off your own remarks in this forum and then spend the next 20 years or so dealing with death, pain, the demands and indifference of the military, lost relationships and the invisible burden of trauma which the dilettante critic will never know. Then go back an read your own pedantic crap where you sound like some constitutional attorney. If you're like most of us, and I'm raising my hand too, you'll laugh a little - maybe give it a face palm.

Please remember that the original "Pledge of Allegiance" said simply "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." and was created by a "Christian Socialist" as a marketing ploy to sell flags.

Admittedly it has become something more than that over time.

Although you have and I believe in free speech I think some teachers get carried away. Their classroom should not be their pulpit for spewing their political points of views and beliefs. How about just teach a class, deal in facts and not accusations or conjecture and let the students come up with their solutions. Don't try to force your ideas on to them. And it really doesn't matter what side of the isle you are on. Some folks can be very rude with their opinions and ideas and refuse to listen to reason or just mutual respectful disagreement. I believe many of these college kids are confused because of professors pushing their agendas on these kids.

I don't approve of anyone "teaching" a 'pledge" against their own country.

Equally, I don't approve of making a "pledge" FOR their own country mandatory.

In fact, when a child simply doesn't understand either the words or the concepts reciting "The Pledge of Allegiance" is the next best thing to meaningless.

One of the best college classes I ever took was given by a noted broadcaster, commentator, author of DECIDEDLY "left-wing" views. The class was in total awe of him. Then I started responding to his questions with the "True Blue Conservative Line". It took him a couple of weeks to get it, and from then on we had barrels of fun because each of us knew that the other wasn't totally serious about the positions we were putting forward. I got an "A+".

PS - If anyone actually tried to teach the "real facts" (i.e. - During "The Opening of the West", more Americans were killed by accidental discharges of their own weapons than were killed by Indians.) in schools/colleges they'd be out of work before the semester was half over.

That is the idea here that differences can be discussed without the constraints of politically correct ambiguity. I think more than anything else, that delineating between food for 'food for thought' and coercion.
