I think it's a great idea to include spouses in a separate section on RallyPoint. As we all know, the military is a family and spouses like to communicate with each other as much as warfighters (and veterans/retirees) do. This tight RP community we have would be a great forum for spouses to stay in touch with other families who have PCS'd or to pose questions about military related issues. When I was deployed in Desert Shield/Storm spouses communicated so much and this would have been the perfect forum for it.

Sure... I look at this as related to RallyPoint but sort of segmented. Right now as a Vet I can only see active duty member's profiles if they opt-in and allow me to see it. I think spouses could have their own network that is similar to vets or civilian supporters. Perhaps active duty can elect to have everyone see their RP correspondence or select by name like FB.

I see this network for spouses as being a communication tool that has elements of FB, Mommy Groups, Twitter + Next Door. Given that military needs are different than all of the above, I think RP could offer an great tool for spouses.

Maybe a good analogy is USAA?

That is a can of worms I wouldn't touch with a Abrams tank, good luck with that fight, it wouldn't be a bad idea, but I could see the ugliness rearing its head real fast.

Everyone knows exactly what I am talking about, we all know those spouses who think their spouses rank is their rank and will throw it around like they are royalty, and the sad thing is many installations and senior personnel allow them to do it, which creates even more animosity and separation of feelings between officers and enlisted at times, the worst I have ever encountered during my career are the CPT/MAJ spouses, if I ever pulled one over, forget about it, I was going to hear all about how their spouse would have my rank and job for giving them a stupid ticket or even stopping them.

Like I said good luck with that one, my wife can't stand most military wife's because of the drama, I know she won't be joining. Like MSGT Gaudu said they already have FB.

Tell her she has Facebook. Luckily my wife is active duty and has the right to be on here, but when spouses complain about not getting the same rights as active duty members makes me shake my head. I've heard my share of dependents complaining about such things. Why can't the AD member have a few things of our own?

Civilian supporters can join, right? They don't discuss much on here, but they are here nonetheless. But I could see where it may be valuable. My spouse is a vet on here, so I don't have to worry about it, but if he wasn't, I don't see the harm in it. After all, networking is networking and if you learn something new from it, then it's a perfectly reasonable request, I think.

I think the main concern is the reported shenanigans that occur on other social media with "rank-pulling" and ego.

If the chat ever escalated to adding spouses to this site, I would see some pitfalls. If we had a spouse start some nonsense, it would spiral down a rabbit hole of ugly REALLY quickly. I also think it would eventually lead to losing some military/veteran/retired members for which this site was original designed. JMHO. :)

The one thing that I enjoy immensely on this site is the respectful exchanges. Yes, there are definitely an occasional a$$-clown that bucks up, but they are handled pretty swiftly.
