SFC Richard Giles Congrats on the upcoming retirement! When is your separation date and what interests you the most on the civilian side?

Capt. Charters I retired last March. I had a pretty good nest egg set aside but I don't want to run through all of it.
I will start college this fall, so a little bit of money will be coming in from that. I was a Motor Sgt for the last 10 yrs. so something in automotive would interest me. Also if I go to school full time something in the security field will be good.

SFC Giles,
Congratulations on your retirement. Just to double checking here. Have you gone through all your classes through the Soldier's for Life? You are still eligible for up to six month's I believe. How about Network? Filing for Disability process? I know there is a lot to do regarding seeking employment and it can be overwhelming at times. Schooling can help as far as additional income while you are seeking employment. Definitely, re-evaluate your need's, your goals and concern's with SFL and network. Myself, we were concern about employment and future income flow, after I got the final readings from the VA and pending Social Security. We haven't received our back pay yet for VA so it will be a while. Well, I hope that give's you encouragement and pray that you will be blessed in your transition back to the civilian life. No more PT or waking up early for now. :D

Thanks for the response SSG Beltran. I retired last March. I'm in the process of filing for disability and applying for college. And you are right it is overwhelming but I've been through worse. Is the Soldier's for Life a website? As I recall that name wasn't bought up in the classes I attended and the classes I did attend were very marginal at best.

SFC Richard Giles - Since you've already retired, I'm not sure the SFL program is available to you.

GRATZ on your Retirement!

Were you AGR? If so, you should already have a solid network. Talk to your connections...

I am going through process now. The most important process to finding employment and having a successful transitioning even mentally is to

NETWORK-NETWORK-NETWORK

Seek mentors through:
Veterati https://www.veterati.com/
ACP https://acp-advisornet.org/signup-veteran
Ementor https://ementorprogram.org/about

Join sites like RallyPoint, LinkedIn and even Twitter

On LinkedIn, join and be an active member of the Veteran Mentor Network Group https://www.linkedin.com/groups/4466143/profile

Then after you have started networking, look into writing a great resume
or have https://www.hireheroesusa.org/ creat one for you.

And network-network-network

First, you need to have solid answers for your own what, where and whys? If you have not had someone else look at your resume, you need to. If you want I will...the more suggestion you can get, the better...but remember it is your resume.

I have a pretty decent resume or so I thought. Been called up for a few interviews but these people seem more concerned about my deployments and if I'm drawing disability or not then my job qualifications. I saved up a good sum of money before retiring but it's starting to get a little frustrating.
