Of all the OEF/OIF vets here, who wishes they could go back overseas?

It's VERY annoying knowing that what I have done in Iraq is being undone by ISIS. All the blood sweat and tears for nothing. I loved being deployed and being a part of history. I had a drill sergeant in AIT who told us that about every 10-15 years we will be in the middle east, that was back in 1998!!!! He was right.

The drill sergeant was Old School that understood the dynamics of the middle East and the parts we played back in the 1960's-1970's were just the beginning.

CPT Pedro Meza - Not to sound like the history nerd that I am, but one could argue our involvement in foreign affairs took a turn for the worse in the long run as far back as the Spanish-American War.

SGT Aaron Atwood - That is a yes and no, simply because with every pre-stages of conflict we fall into "What Have We Learned Charlie Brown" (great movie) so we either repeat a lesson or we move on, a lot depends on our leaders.

Life was a lot simpler Over Seas, it was a lot more dangerous, but way easier. Everything in the Civilian is overly complicated and involves too many decision based on emotion. I don't know if I wish to go back or just wish for more simple existence.

'decisions based on emotion.' Nailed it I think. In the Army you simply can't. Its all based on training and experience and mission. In the civilian world everyone wants to do what feels nice and what is the minimum amount of work necessary.

Let's be honest, Iraq & Afghanistan would have ended a long time ago if everyone could go back

It would have ended a lot sooner if we could have kept the Media and Politician out of the Country. Let us do our damn job.

SSG Joel Galford Deploying overseas just after the new year. We have an operational reserve now. I hope over the course of the year, I will be able to do something worth the time away from the family.

Hmmm-Can't say I'd trade my easy chair and a cold beer every night for freezing my butt off in the 'Stan.
That said, I do sometimes miss the clarity.

SSG Joel Galford Absolutely. My experience in Iraq was the highlight of my career. I served with the greatest Soldiers, had the greatest leaders, and felt the most mission accomplishment.
