Oxford study seeks RallyPoint member advice

RallyPoint has teamed up with researchers from Oxford (led by a recent West Point graduate - 2LT (Join to see)) to conduct a survey that will compare transition services offered by the United States to services in place in the United Kingdom. The data from this survey will be presented to various U.S. government organizations with the intention to influence policy for future generations. If you would be willing to offer your experience, please take 15 minutes of your time to work through this quick 6 page survey.

This was a poorly constructed survey. If you checked that you are currently Active Duty in the beginning, the "I am separated" type questions are not tailored or grayed out. The results will be skewed as the questions don't make sense for some one active duty. (Ie I am employed but not in the civilian work force)

Recommend only polling separated service members or retooling the survey to tailor to still serving vice separated.

The era of service question did not account for people straddling eras. Recommend structuring the reply to allow for a "Mark all that apply" option. As an example, September 2001 - Presnt AND 1990-2000 both apply to me.

Also, a few things:

-VA education benefits: There was no GI Bill for service members in the early 1980's. There was some other program but I'm not sure it was veteran related.
-Branch of Service: This should be all that apply. Some of us served in multiple branches.
-TAP: Never heard of it. Was it even around in the 1980's?

Without knowing what UK programs you are comparing, I can only assume the questions were posed, at least as intended and captured the data, as intended.

You are correct, these questions are generalized so we can make a US and UK comparison. We hope to compare outcomes between two 'similar' veteran transition systems and make an econometric driven argument to change certain aspects of policy.

I attended TAP while my reenlistment was still pending. It was a great course, but that was due to the instructors. Instructors need to e well vetted it would be easy for an instructor to just cruise through the material and call it good. Capstone on the other hand is asinine, it should NOT be mandatory.
