I know it's a very expensive place to live, that's why they give you a generous BAH amount. There are pros/cons to either, we just can't decide whether to live on/off post...

I lived off post in Kapolei and later moved to Ko'Olina and loved it. The drive down Kunia Rd to the coast was easy and avoided traffic issues.

1SG, definitely live OFF post! No question about it! RallyPoint did a blog post on this specific topic a little while back. Here is the link, hope it helps you and your family:

It is best advised to live off post due to the wait which is up to 8 months to a year for your rank. I just left there trust me. Also look on AHRN, for a place to rent.

1SG Oaks,
May I suggest exploring the Schofield Barracks duty station page here on RallyPoint? You will likely find it useful to connect directly with folks already there to learn more about your hosing options and life in the area.

MSG Oaks, depending on your number of Dependents (I believe three bedrooms is the highest), Medonca Park may be just the right fit. It is technically an installation, a small gated community (all visitors need a key card to enter), directly across the street from Schofield to avoid traffic as well as crowding from neighbors. From personal experience, I recommend this place!
