I must disagree - while pirates (well those in the caribbean) had the unique factor of being completely democratic amongst themselves when attaining / retaining leadership positions they were famous for breaking every rule in the book as far as warfare on the sea.
Ninja's, while being tasked frequently with assassination and destruction of entire families were also specialist with exceptional skills and a code of conduct.
