Should Soldiers be able to carry privately owned weapons while on duty on post and if so should a concealed weapons permit be required?

I have a Concealed Weapon Permit and I also live off-post. When I am out and about doing errands I have my pistol with me and my CWP. Now, if I wanted to head on-post I would have to turn back around, head home and put my pistol up. The reason for that is, if you are not going to the POW range on-post, or heading to your on-post residence you may not have a weapon in your vehicle. You also must have it registered with Provost Marshall, which I have done (since I like to hunt). I have taken concealed weapons classes and defensive pistol course as well. I think if we have the training and keep up with it, we should be able to carry on a military installation. Just wondering what your thoughts are? <br>

Yes to both questions, with the caveat that they qualify with the weapon and be authorized by their commander and 1SG, as well as at a minimum, quarterly recertification/qualification.
