California Policeman beats black woman nearly to death. Statistics show that the majority of police that commit violent crimes against American citizens are prior military. Why? Is it Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or simply hate. The U.S. Federal government is investigating. The American government and press attributed recent violence in Furguson and Baltimore to police brutality. Six police officers were subsequently arrested in Baltimore. PTSD(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) or simply hate??? Key result, police were arrested.

Why does the police force have to be singled out when it comes to pre-employment screening? I guess it's because they're the ones held responsible for the protection of our society and are held to a higher level of professionalism and restraint.

I know we hear about all the negative stuff when it comes to cops making a questionable decision that results in somebody getting hurt or killed, but these guys are trained to respond on the fly. Naturally, the level of stress is unique.

However, it has been my experience that any job can set anyone off. Here's the kicker, that individual doesn't have to be prior military or have PTSD. Go to YouTube and look up videos of people in everyday jobs having meltdowns. There is one that has a woman working at Burger King who snaps on someone because they're not satisfied with their order. In my personal opinion, those employers don't worry about screening or background checks as it pertains to their character or disposition. There are a lot of people in the food industry who have no business being there, but they are because background checks aren't as thorough.

Take what you will from this that it's apples and oranges. But, my point is this: there are bad fits in every sector of the workforce.

In the Military Intelligence community at the national level, extensive polygraph examinations, extensive special background investigations, and extensive psychological testing is routine. Surely a psychological pre-employment screening of police recruits should not be a problem. For combat veterans desiring employment on a police force, a screen for PTSD would be beneficial to the police force as well as to the American public. I am sympathetic to the plight of veterans diagnosed with PTSD. My older brother is diagnosed with PTSD. I am sympathetic to our nations police force. I am a 15 year State of Florida Private Investigator and Security Specialist. In addition, A Hampton City and Newport News Virgina Special Police Officer, Private Investigator, and Security specialist. In addition, a Military Intelligence Officer.

I think that there is a common misconception that PTSD is directly linked to someone who is liable to "flip out". We all must eventually find ways of dealing with it but most importantly I don't like for people to walk on eggshells when they find out about my PTSD.

I am not into Law Enforcement so I can't speak as one but as SSG Todd Lysfjord alluded* in his reply, we cannot link these unfortunate events to veterans with PTSD. Out of all the events you mentioned in this post, how many of these officers are actually veteran (let alone with PTSD)? Starting with Darren Wilson. Furthermore, discrimination against what is considered a disability is an open season for lawsuits. That's why we get veteran preference of 30% etc. but when you hire PLEASE don't treat me any different and walk around eggshells thinking I may "flip out". It's not like we lost reasoning and logic. We just work a lot harder on adapting.

For MSgt Folsom. I included the Director of the FBI analysis of the situation. He gave a speech at Georgetown University recently and he spoke briefly on the issue. In addition, I am including some statistics on police brutality published over the internet by various sources. I understand that this will not answer your question completely but also understand my opening statement is a question. I am asking if Rallypoint subscribers believe PTSD and Police brutality are linked. And if so, should there be pre-employment screening. A good answer would be, "No. I do not believe that veterans on the police force with PTSD and police brutality are linked and pre-employment screening for PTSD is unnecessary." Another good answer would be, "Yes, I do believe veterans on the police force with PTSD are a problem and veterans joining the police force should require PTSD screening prior to being employed on the police force.

All you keep doing is posting the same video and repeating the same rhetoric over and over. Please show the statistics that you keep going on about. Until then, it sounds like you are just trying to push some kind of agenda.

And PO3 David Fries , you will notice that he aggressively downvotes opinions that aren't his. He seems to be spamming the forums with the same links over and over and over... This will be my last interaction with an unverified troll.

Voted down huh? Because I don't believe what you are trying to push? The amusing part is, it doesn't bother me. You aren't hurting my feelings any. Points, or lack thereof don't mean anything.

Sir, today's veterans who join the police force are not different than those who joined following VN or the Cold War. A bully is a bully. A person who has been bullied will often bully others. Those who lead, will lead. Those who were pushed will bully.

PTSD has become a part of the military society. The question is to what extent. Fortunately, today's veteran is treated immediately and has a better possibility of successful treatment than those who had to wait a couple of decades of festering prior to diagnosis and then perhaps treatment.

The question is, is the VA going to give a true screening evaluation of PTSD---look at the mess and the bad evaluations it has given in the recent past. Who does one trust to give an evaluation? Some police Depts are really at a loss to get qualified people. MPs and other military veterans are duly qualified. Military veterans are less racially triggered..we sleep, eat, and play with people of all races.

No one better ask me about PTSD when they hire me. That is not a question on the form. A person can have PTSD from any number of things, not just from being in the military. A cop can get it just by being on the force. There are more beaten wives of cops than there are of soldiers. The cops cover for each other, the military takes care of its own.

I'm not sure where this is coming from. Are the cops involved in either story veterans? Do they have PTSD?

Sir, Who is Brooke Baldwin to talk and what are her degrees in medicine? I know how to bounce statistics as does nearly any one who has a degree. Just because she is pretty face before a camera does not make her a responsible journalist, and if it is not Charlie Rose or Jeff Glor I am not believing what they say. I was trained at DINFOS during the Cold War. I do not respect those who do not do independent non-biased research.
