I am currently in DEP, as a re-entry I was told I get what is available. The only thing available was 11X. I am 29 years old and don't plan on doing any schools in to excel in that MOS. I am having second thoughts about re-joining as I don't think I will be suited for 11X. I am married as well. With infantry day to day life being all over the place it wouldn't be fair to my wife. I am wondering if anyone has any options or suggestions if there is any. I know the army looks at re-entry as your like to get back in. However is it worth it? I want to serve my country but I also want to be fair to myself and my wife. I don't know if my body or my wife would be able to handle 11X as this a more demanding position in the army. I am due to ship out in a month and have not sworn in yet. Thank you for anyone who can help.

Have you thought about the Army Reserves or National Guard? Once back in and assigned to a unit you can apply for an Active Reserve position. There are also lots of one to two year AD tours you can sign up for as well. Or just do your weekends and see were your career takes you.

Join the Air Force if they let you. 11X is Rangers and they spend an average of 280 days a year in the field and longer if deployed.

PFC (Join to see) - This will take some self-reflection on your part. As much as recruiters will tell you that there is no quota to get people in, or get them to a specific MOS, there are. You don't stay a recruiter without putting up the numbers. You will need to think about exactly what you want to do. Do you want to go back to the your previous MOS? Do you want a new MOS? Are you okay with the Army/Recruiter telling you 'this is the only option'? If 11X (I believe the X designates SF)/11B is the only thing available, and the Army is the only branch you want, will it be worth it to you? If not, you may have to decide on going into another service that will provide other opportunities, the opportunities you are looking for.

Thank you for the response. I know the recruiters and meps have told me take it or leave it. I have also been told that's them not wanting to do any more paperwork. And they have said your lucky to get back in. 11X is not what I want and I don't want to be miserable for the next 3 years at my unit and be that guy with the attitude. I plan on calling my recruiter and telling him I will not accept them job. However, I am just worried he is going to be done messing with me and say I wont be enlisting than. At that point do I go to a different recruiter?

PFC (Join to see) Just go to a different recruiter. There is no prerequisite that requires you go with a specific recruiter. If that is your recruiter's mentality, go with someone else. Is it really the people at MEPS, or your recruiter saying that it is MEPS saying it? The only person that is going to watch out for your career and family is you.

Have you thought of maybe going into a different service?

I have, however I would like to stick with Army and my recruiter who has gone above and beyond for me to get me to this point. I am pretty open to an MOS just something a little less demanding on the body and something with a little more work life balance for my family. I know at anytime I could be called to somewhere so no job is going to get you home every night, however with infantry that could be more often than any other MOS.
