Long before someone else, with great fanfare and pomp and circumstance, "popped" on the political stage of America in 2004, I remember quite vividly when this young black man quietly "exploded" on that same stage with a charm and eloquence that has been rarely seen since. Politics aside, I listened to him and I liked what he said as much as how he said it. May this good man rest in peace. Julian Bond was 75.

Wrote Callie Crossley, "I suppose it is inevitable that this is the season of loss for the now aged, once young, people whose determination and sacrifice more than 50 years ago fundamentally changed this country. But it still hurts when a giant like Julian Bond slips away."

Black or White, Democrat or Republican, this country has lost a fine American.

I remember the name, but not much else about him. Those were hectic times.
