I have heard that the majority of the military tend to support the Republican party, although I am sure it is not a complete landslide.

More recently it seems that the Libertarian party has gained a lot of ground among service members.

I am doing a survey to see which way people in this group lean but I would also like to hear everyone's opinions on why they like one over the other, or what would get them to change their minds, or what they do and don't like about each party.

I marked Libertarian as there is not a place for Independents, have had enough of the other two parties.

I do not identify with any political group, because they are all blind to the issues in my opinion. I have been told however that I am Libertarian, and so that is what I have selected here.

The problem with these labels is that they have been tied to non political things. Republican-Conservative-Christian, it's hard to be one without being all three if you want to be a part of that party. Democrat-Liberal-Atheist. Hard again.

My views are simple. Your rights only extend to you, and your Freedoms should not violate others rights. You can have your beliefs so long as you leave me mine. In other words, do what ever you like just get off my lawn!

My personal belief is that the secret to our greatness isn't in one party or another it's in the people themselves and the freer from government intrusion from our personal lives and economically, the greater the opportunity for success we will have.

Natural rights not to be abridged by someone or something "taking care of me." The Bill of Rights extending to everyone. Accepting that war is not the answer without a just cause and a clear policy. Just to name a few...

p.s. Libertarian does not automatically mean Tea Party, or vice-versa. Thought I should put that out there.

No doubt. Like I stated in a comment a few minutes ago, I am a Tea Party Conservative but definitely am not Libertarian.

If there is such a 'thing' as an Indetutionalist or a Condependent then I suppose that is the widget I fit in. The current political powers have devolved into elitist fraternities of power hungry, illicit spending know-it-all's who believe that the common man (or woman) could not possibly comprehend or understand what is important in Washington DC. They believe only they know what is 'right' for the people, and the people are too stupid to realize that.

It would be great to find a Davey Crockett in today's world who would stand up for the people against all this political elite crap, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I read an article back in 2010 by Bob Livingston on Davey Crockett titled: Sockdolager that embodies the type of person I believe would be a good representative of the people. Until we can look past these political labels and the ideology that come with it, we're stuck with the multitude of people who just follow the leader into a deeper hole.

Sir, sadly, too many refuse to be honest with their beliefs which is why they blindly follow whichever "leader" they tend to worship at the time.

Conservative. It falls within the Republican camp but nowadays the modern Rep Party is more and more liberal, and the Dem Party more and more communist. The below sums up very nicely why I am a conservative. All of it can be summed up in two words: true freedom.

I agree which is why I say they are NOT true conservatives. They are dealing in emotionality. This is also why I support term limits as well as getting rid of ALL 546 personnel in federal government.

Republican conservatives are strongest in the South, Mountain West and Midwest, where they draw support from social conservatives.

Freedom is NOT easy. It does REQUIRE those virtues you listed, Accountability and Responsibility. Freedom also requires THOUGHT, another requirement of human existence which all too many choose to abrogate to others.

In fantasy land, I'm sure I'm a conservative. In reality, neither major party upholds or really even tries to imitate their party correctly. The dems say they want to help those that need help, but in reality they need to hurt others in order to help those. Repubs say they are for smaller government and less regulation but in reality they grow the government and produce more and more regulations.

So to be honest, I think I'm on my own....... I'm the only one thats honest to ME.

I'm a little "L" libertarian because I'm not a member of the Libertarian Party and I'm a big "R" republican because in my state there's pretty much nothing else on the ballet besides Rep or Dem.

My hawkish nature makes me clash with the Libertarian party platform sometimes.

Mostly libertarian. Sometimes they go a little overboard...but I feel like we can meet in the middle on the big stuff, like stopping billion dollar handouts to large corporations, and then we can have a discussion on whether or not government should fund roads, schools, and police.

The way to get me to vote democratic or republican would entail democrats or republicans to be like libertarians...

However, this survey is missing "independent" as an option. As that is what I would vote.
