Republican leadership
So, before the sitting ocupants change seat owenership on the hill, what does RP think about the current Republican leadership? Have they guided the rest of the Republicans in a manner that has bennifited you and your communities? Have they battled against the Democrates on the issues you hold dear?

Or do you think the Democrates are correct and the Republicans should be following their lead. Are they building the America of your dreams?

Neither party with their present leadership is good for this country. There are some very good people in both parties that are powerless because of their party’s long standing leadership. The recent election just changed the flag from Democrat to Republican. That ought to make most Americans jump for joy, but it does not for several reasons. Why do well-to-do people spend millions of dollars to get elected to a $174,000 job that guarantees them a large pension? It is all about power and self-serving politicians. The longer they serve, the more damage they do to our government. It was never intended to be a full time job. Term limits are necessary, along with cutting out pensions, and we should be screaming loud and clear to demand it. The Democrats have always stated that they are the party of the poor. Since the great depression, the poor have continued to become more poor as the cost of living has increased, and the population has risen. You would think the poor would have figured this out by now, yet they still continue to vote to remain slaves to the Democratic party. Together with policies that dish out taxpayers hard-earned money to support those who fail to lift a finger to help themselves, and the constant drone of "the Republicans are starving your children and poisoning the air and water" is an old and worn out strategy doled out by politicians who have spent too much time taking our country apart. On the Republican side, the leadership is weak in both houses. In my opinion, they more closely resemble Republicrats who love to talk a big game but continue to make under the table deals with Democrats. They are in power now, yet they look helpless to go after a President who continues to do things that raise eyebrows. It would be an amazing thing if both houses and a president actually worked together to solve our immigration problem; secure our borders; revamp the IRS and revise the tax code to make it an all pay in (flat tax or similar) where no one gets a special deal because of who they are or what they do); put more power back into state governments to improve education; stimulate the economy by taking the burden off of small business, the true economic engine of the US; put medical care back into the competitive market so premiums would come down and you could actually keep your doctor; and minimize the interference that our founding fathers warned us about with an out of control big government mentality. Finally, the press needs to be held accountable for their siding with one party or another. When you turn on the tube today you don't hear about all of the issues that are ongoing where the President has taken liberties with our system without proper representation from the people. He is as guilty as anyone in our government today and has in my own opinion shirked his responsibility and authority. He talks a big game, also, but when you go golfing after an American is beheaded, or you go campaigning instead of monitoring overseas situations where Americans are attacked, it makes this veteran angry that he does not take care of Americans in harms way. Putting our hard earned tax dollars into Climate Change is a futile effort. The climate does change… we know that. Trying to play God is beyond man’s reach. Mother nature has taught us as much. Until order is restored by getting term limits installed and reducing the wing span of our federal government, we will continue to waddle and waste away in government overreach and inefficiency to a bunch of self-serving hypocrites.

Oh how do I long for a flat tax system, I am convinced if every person and every buisiness were taxed 10% with no loop holes, no returns then we would have our deficit cut in a quick order. That would also lead to being able to cut the IRS by about 90%, a good start to our obese government.

Politicians are politicians. While I truly believe that most, down deep in their hearts, want to do the right thing for their constituents and the country, they are, nonetheless, politicians and want to be re-elected. It is balancing act that is constantly in play.

I think there should be term limits, with no career politicians, so they could concentrate more the country's business and less on re-election.

I agree with the term limmits, I think 12 years is long enough for them to become seasoned and share their knowledge with the juniors but it is not so long as to have the career influence on them.

there are term limits, its called elections. I agree in theory on term limits but it doesn't deal with the issue, its the person. heck they could do alot of damage in 2 years if they want. And lets say you get the rare unicorn that actually isnt a corrupt, sorry, you did 4 terms go home.

I understand your point, however, there is not much you can do if that type person is elected. Hopefully they will show their true colors early and not be re-elected.

The idea of term limits is that, the longer one stays in political office, the further they get away from the ideals that made them run in the first place and the more important it is for them to maintain their power and get re-elected, oftentimes selling their souls or selling out our country as a means to an end.. That is certainly not true for all of them, but I think it is true for many -- too many.

Having known John Boehner since 1978, working with & for him in his early congressional years I will only say that the Speaker the country sees today is very different from the man I interacted with back then. It is not a comment he is very fond of hearing but I believe it is true.

CPT Richard Riley I wonder how true this is for many of them. I'll be honest. I didn't know President Obama prior to the 2004 Democratic Convention, and I barely knew him then. However, the man in the WH is not the same man I voted for in 2008. Politics changes people.

Both parties are the same, the only difference is which side of the coin has the etched imprint of their spewed garbage. I vote independent so that I can vote my conscience. Republicans don't have the answers just as Democrats don't have the answers.

I think John Boehner is a hardworking Speaker who is trying to work with the far right wing (TEA party), normal conservatives, moderates, and even Dems. I don't envy him trying to put together deals and compromises among those groups. It's almost an impossible situation, so the criticism he receives is - in my humble opinion - sometimes unfair.

I agree that being the Speaker of the House in todays widespread views could potentially be toughest job on the Hill; however, this isnt the only time in history that Americans have been split on how things should be done. Although non of us are perfect, I think we need a strong leader like Newt Gingrich was, after four decades of Democrate lead House, he was a major player in the Republicans taking control. He then went on in 1998 pass the first ballanced budget since 1969. Yeah he had some ethics issues and I dont think the ends justify the means; but, he was a strong leader when America needed one, and we need another one now.

Just my opinion. But then again I can be a little right of the Tea Party at times.

Boener is a pragmatist. Iwould have preferred a different course of action, but I am not a Congressman. We will find out if the Republicans can govern after they take the oath of office in January.

As far as the budget goes, if they really want to fix it, they would pass the budget in fourteen individual bills, scrutinized by their respective committees, like they are supposed to instead of this continuing resolution, omnibus, brinksmanship business. There is a lot of waste in that budget, defense included. I for one would welcome scrutiny and public hearings and debate.

I'm a libertarian but I tend to side with the repugnicans at least they pay lip service to my issues but I have yet to see them enact it. congress really isnt doing its job no matter the party and all the so called conservatives bitching about what Obama is doing fail to realize he is not a dictator congress is a check all they want to do is bitch and my senator seems to like post on facebook strongly worded petitions to Obama...HEY ITS YOUR JOB TO DO SOMETHING! Suing the president, are you Serious! I bet Boehner and Obama came up with that, I can see John talking to Obama" sir, I really got to do something, my constituents want me to do something"
then Obama says" Sue me"
JOhn " but sir, you might lose"
Obama" oh , no by the time the suit hits I will be out of office and no one would care"
John" brilliant sir, I am on it!"
I would like to see congress reign in fed courts, if a state's citizens overwhelmingly vote for something it shouldnt be over turned by an un elected fed judge see defense of marriage acts in several states. hell I would say NO fed judges, if someone does a big enough crime a person will be charged in a state court.

Thanks Capt Richard I P. that sounds interesting. I have not read this author before, I have been stuck in the James Rollins and Vince Flynn books for a while. I'll see if I can find it at my half priced book store.

Putting all the name calling in the article aside, I think the "leadership" is lacking.

It seems that the Republican "leadership" is way more focused on fighting political battles and vendettas than fixing actual problems.
Why vote 54 times in 4 years to try and defund Healthcare when the majority voted for it. And not only that, estimated 14 million people are now covered, that they were not before?
Why insist on attaching military funding to bills they know would be defeated? Thus making a political statement like "LOOK! the democrats voted down funding the military" when in reality they voted down the actual bill, which included the republican unrelated addition of military funding, etc.

I guess in the end this is why we're simply supposed to be subordinated to these people, not actually engage in politics.

Wrong or right, Dem or Rep, in the end they mostly look after themselves, getting re-elected and the rich friends that bout their seats for them

I like very little on the Republican platform. This includes those more traditional members of the GOP and the more fringe "Tea Party" movement.

So, I cannot accurately assess those whom I don't prefer in an unbiased manner.
