As leaders we all know that safety is important. However, at what point, if any, does it get in the way of the mission?

I know I've said this before...we have to wear our PT belt in the GYM...why? Because there may be an errant car driving thru the GYM that won't notice me unless I'm wearing my PT belt? I'm all about uniformity and safety, but COME ON!

No....it is because reflective belts stop bullets.

I hate to say it, but there are times where the safety precautions seem to hinder performance. I am at a loss for an example, but I have experienced this more than a few times.

Also, why is it that we must wear our ACH in military vehicles on public roads? The Guard never does this. I am not sure about Active. I noticed the Navy did not do this when in California.

I'm in fort Stewart and anytime we are in a military vehicle we must be in "full Marne standard". Eye pro. Ach. Gloves. Vest and Molle and knee pads. However if we are doing a road test and staying on post main roads we can bring it down a notch with ach. Eye pro and gloves.

If the mission is to be the most risk-averse...I guess not. Sadly, the old "We are all adults here" mentality has been usurped by the "Good Idea Fairy."
