The Senate Armed Services Committee has approved the nomination of Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford to be the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The panel approved President Obama's pick by voice vote Thursday. Now the nomination goes to the full Senate.

If he's confirmed, Dunford will replace Army Gen. Martin Dempsey. The Senate could vote before lawmakers break for their August recess.

We need a kick-ass combat infantryman as the Chair of the Joint Chiefs for all the challenges we are facing in the world, especially the Middle East. I think Obama knows he needs a truth teller more than he needs a "I'll tell the boss what I think he wants to hear," kind of General or Admiral. I am sure Gen. Dunsford will tell Obama what he REALLY thinks even if it going to piss off his boss. U-Rah.
I see a world of difference between "Peter Perfect Pace" the last Marine to head the Joint Chiefs (who was well known to be a very political savvy general and Naval Academy Grad), and Gen. Dunsford. Gen. Pace did not get nominated for a second term as chair of the joint chiefs. He also public disputed white house claims under GWB that Iran was providing EFPs (Explosively formed penetrators) that were killing our soldiers and Marines, a fact that was later verified.

GySgt Wayne A. Ekblad - I hope he has the moral courage to stand up for what is right and does not succumb to the political BS. He is where he is, in large part to politics (mostly within the military), but that does not mean he needs to become a mouthpiece for the Administration. I hope he has a pair and stands up against the BS the current Administration is trying to destroy the military with all its social engineering, budget/troop cuts, repositioning decisions, etc., etc.

Capt Lance Gallardo - :-) In a former life, I might have choked him out. I am much "kinder and gentler" now. :-) He and I have had some pretty good debates on Facebook.

I have no doubt that Hillary will skate through this one, as she has the others, with the help of the Administration. Loretta Lynch appears to be nothing more than Eric Holder in a skirt and simply a stooge for the Obama Administration and the liberals. I hope that I am wrong, but I fear that I am not. If there is an actual investigation, the outcome will be punted until it is too late to affect the election. Would be an interesting thing if she won the election and the investigation resulted in charges. Can she pardon herself?? :-) I think it more likely that this will be swept under the rug, just like her other "indiscretions".

I hope not Sir! Maybe I am still too optimistic at 50 to believe that Justice will be done to her for her misdeeds.

In a Nanosecond I predict. First thing out of Gen Dunsford's mouth, "Sorry Sir but if you are anyway serious about killing ISIS bad guys you are going to need some serious warfighters on the grounds, probably, Seals, ODA teams, a lot of Joint Terminal Air Controllers and Joint Tactical Air Control Partys (Affectionately known as "JTACS"), some Special Forces Marines, Special Forces Air Force Operators, maybe a Ranger Battalion reinforced. Can't kill them all from the air or efficiently with out having some really good operators on the ground doing the personal reconnaissance and target destruction analysis that cannot be done from the air. Oh and by the way tell the Air Force that getting rid of the A-10 Warthog is non-negotiable. the Marines and the Army Infantry love this plane, probably the best close air support plane we have had since the the A-1 Skyraider the "Sandy" in Vietnam or the P-47 Thunderbolt in WWII.

Best short one liner on taking care of business, when the business involves killing some folk that desperately need killing: Steve McQueen's character in the Magnificent Seven, when the Bad Guy asks Yule Brynner Character and his men if they can make a "deal." Steve McQueen's character replies, "We deal in Lead, friend." Time to make a bigger "deal" with ISIS, and start "dealing" in some serious lead from some serious warfighters on the ground, as well as in the air.
