Despite steep pay raises since the 9/11 terror attacks, too many military personnel still struggle to feed their families and need an easier way to get food stamps, according to a new bill from a San Diego congresswoman (Susan Davis). Is this needed and Should More Troops Become Eligible for Food Stamps?

Many more soldiers qualify for but don't apply for food stamps and other related programs. When
I was a lower enlisted service member stationed in New York City, I was qualified for may of the programs but pridefully refused to make application because I wanted to escape the negative connotation associated with the programs and those that accepted the help.

From personal experience, it is better to avoid this and live within your means. I understand individual cases differ from each other but any form of welfare should be a last resort not a first option.

Only if they are on Reserve or Guard status. If you're on active duty, NO

SFC (Join to see) Why? I thought the motto was one team, one fight. Or are we not all in the same military now?

If you are active duty regardless of rank , you should be making enough to buy your own food. if you are in trouble financially then you need some counseling and get your finances in check. Those on the reserve/guard side are on a different boat, they loose jobs and go homeless and that's where state help comes in. I been on both sides.
