Should Non-Verified users be able to participate in the answers section?

It seems as there are a lot of users who are not verified commenting on Questions/Discussions. Most of them are fine but it seems that some users create an account just to antagonize others. I personally think that only verified users should have access to this section, to prevent spam and users who may not be military posting.
What do you think? Should this be a verified users only section? How long does it really take to verify your account?

I think the idea that non- verified people could come on here and pretend to be veterans is unnerving. Another problem is that they can instigate disruptiveness and cohesiveness which is pretty good right now.

If it's just a question (versus questioning previous activity), I would say 'no'. Let them be verified first. If not, we don't have an 'exclusive' site, and might as well carry on in Facebook.

I agree, but for another reason in addition to what you said.
When RallyPoint links a discussion on Facebook, there's usually an extension of the discussion undertaken by the Facebook followers of RP; the attitudes are night and day.
When a member verifies to RallyPoint and posts a discussion or response here, they're attributed to their service, rank, and unit. I think that's part of the reason everyone on here is so professional in the way they discuss the issues.
On the Facebook side, you simply have the dregs of the internet; people act like they're invincible, that their service values don't apply there.

but you are not verified. would you be upset if you could not participate? do you think non-verified members would be motivated to get verifed?

I thought that the only way you could even access any other area other than your profile you had to be verified has that changed or has someone found a way to hack the site, this makes me curious, have you brought it up to the admin folks.

Unverified members have limited access to the site. Most importantly, they do not have access to view profiles, names, or pictures of verified service members, in accordance with the default site privacy settings.
Verifying service records electronically is not possible for those who served prior to 1985, and some veterans from that era do not have easy access to verifying documents given that it was 30+ years ago for some of them. I believe that is why some are slow to verify sometimes, and rather accept living with limited access.
Professional community standards should be upheld by all members, regardless of their status.

If you're curious, this is the view that an unverified member would have of this question. This is done to protect the privacy of verified service members on RallyPoint.
