U.S. President Barack Obama ripped Republican presidential candidates as being against American workers in a speech at the Greater Boston Labor Council's Labor Day Breakfast Monday. Obama's Labor Day speech to a room of about 765 people criticized GOP leaders for espousing strategies he said would hurt the middle class.

The president joked he was "so glad I’m not on the ballot" in November, but went on to slam GOP leaders for their stances.

"Now we're starting to hear a lot about middle-class values," he said. "Some folks seem confused about what exactly that means." Obama then went on to list details in support of his economic positions but later returned to criticizing Republican presidential hopefuls.

Without specifically referencing him by name, the president ripped Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker for his comments about a plan for combating the Islamic State group earlier in the year, in which he said, "If I can take on 100,000 [union] protesters, I can do the same across the globe," CNN reported.

"So one candidate, he is bragging about how he destroyed collective bargaining rights in his state," Obama told the union crowd, which predictably responded with boos. "And says that busting unions prepares him to fight ISIL." The crowd responded with laughter.

Sgt Tom Cunnally - Sergeant; From the current list of potential Republican candidates and from the public positions that the Republican party, one might draw the conclusion that "Middle Class" in the Republican lexicon means "those eaning +/- 20% of the average income of Americans calculated by adding the lowest paid American (roughly $0.00 if you don't count state subsidies) and the highest paid American (roughly $156,000,000) and then dividing by two. That would mean that the "Middle Class" would consist of those whose annual income ranged from $124,800,000 to $187,200,000 which is, after all, the "middle of the income range".

COL Ted Mc -Not sure the potential Republican candidates would agree with you Colonel. But I can't speak for them since I am not Middle Class anymore and judging by your example more likely just about one step away from going on welfare.

Sgt Tom Cunnally - Sergeant; When you want to know what a person really thinks - pay more attention to what they do than to what they say.

What ideas? So far, the GOP candidates are mostly about fear and hate.

If the GOP is really what you think it is, let them fall on their own sword, right? What are they saying that you are afraid of? Be specific, arguing generalities is futile.

Ok PO1 Holland but you are describing Trump & not Rubio or Cruz who do have some pretty good ideas.. Maybe you don't agree with them but these guys are very articulate and don't just shoot from the hip..

Sgt Tom Cunnally - I live in Texas and for the life of me I cannot understand how Ted Cruz got elected in the first place. He accused his Republican opponent of many things that turned out not to be true. While he himself misrepresented himself to the votes. I have no confidence in Ted Cruz. He will lie at the drop of hat to make himself look good, even after being proven wrong.

Last time Obama endorsed candidates the Dems lost the Senate to Reps. So probably not the best idea.

This is what Obama does. He hasn't been a real POTUS, he has acted like a candidate and has campaigned nearly his whole time in office. Nothing new here.

What politician who has been elected to office does not start running for reelection as soon as that person takes office!

So you are saying all Presidents go on the campaign trail right after election? That is ridiculous.

Cpl Matthew Wall - Cpl Matthew Wall of course i'm not saying that they start on the campaign trail right away. However, every move they make and every activity they get involved with and every bill they support of oppose if designed for re-election.
