Should people get involved in politics? If so, why?

Fine, I'll be that guy.
Everyone should have the right to involve themselves in politics. Everyone should have a say in how this country is run, and how it should affect their lives.
But would I be upset if a lot of the people that are participating would stop? Nope. Am I glad that uneducated people are less likely to vote? Hell no. I'm uneducated. Would you like me to be elected into office? If I chose not to watch the news, keep a job, or pay taxes, would you want me even voting?

I think every vote counts. Some may have limited knowledge of what they are voting for but it still counts. You have some very educated people who watch the news but will only vote for someone because of a particular party, regardless of the issues.

IMO, Yes. It is our responsibility as Citizens to stay engaged in some shape or form to better shape the long-term outcome and goals of the country. How far involved one gets, is entirely up to the individual of course.

I agree with this sentiment. I'm also glad that people who often fail themselves and fail their responsibilities as citizens are also less likely to vote. No statistics, just an indirect observation I've made of people around me. There are people who I would prefer not to affect policy, and I'm glad many of them excuse themselves from the process.

SSG Shavonde Chase - I have known people who use drugs, and use others to acquire them, breaking laws and hurting people. This person doesn't vote, and I'm glad.
I know people who make bad decisions with their finances. They provide for their family, but if the were more responsible and selfless they could make a better life for their children. They don't vote, and I'm glad.
I think you get the idea. Thanks.

I know a few people who do not even vote. But I kind of respect their reasoning, they say they are too busy to keep informed and don't intend to get involved until they don't like what is personally happened to them.
I have more respect for non-voters than the people who vote straight party and their reasoning is "my grandparents voted _________, my parents voted __________, so I vote _________." But they really have no idea where there party actually stands on the issues.

I know people like this. They do often have logic reasoning for the party they choose but I too don't understand why some are that loyal. For the longest I didn't really understand what which party meant. I listen to the issues and vote for the person who speaks to me the best. I did, however, do an online test to see which party aligns the best with my views. Surprisingly, it was the Republican party. I don't think that I would tell my Mom this. And no, I was not a supporter of president elect Donald Trump and not all that for Hilary either.
