Is Snowden a patriot or a traitor? Should President Obama pardon him, as he's asking in this CNN story?

I'll cast the first no vote as soon as I post this question. Just so you know.

No pardon, but Mr Obama is pardoning hundreds of convicted drug felons, so no telling what he will do during his last hours in office.

From all the facts I've read and how they relate to him I think so, because from what I've learned he tried to do it the right way, using chain of command and it fell on def ears because of those who controlled the programs. I do think in today's life we need certain programs to help protect our citizens but at the same time it's a fine line because between what is in the best nature and what can be used against us. He exposed some serious issues in our government that people turned a blind eye to because the good is was used for worked but it also had serious bad and with programs as such you need governing bodies to determine the best course of a program and not a select few, over sight is needed in order to ensure issues are at a minimal.

If I may, this is the NSA's contention that he did not report any wrong doing:

"The NSA disputes his account, previously telling The Washington Post that, "after extensive investigation, including interviews with his former NSA supervisors and co-workers, we have not found any evidence to support Mr. Snowden’s contention that he brought these matters to anyone’s attention.”"

Speaking of which, this is the same man who downloaded and stole tons of classified information. Ask yourself, why did he not take the copies of the emails he claimed to have sent to multiple people? That would at least give him some credibility (it wouldn't vindicate him though).

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin - Well the type of employee NSA says Snowden was, raises a lot of question . . . the primary one being: who put him up to it? But we all know how paperwork can get "lost", too. There is an art to keeping documented proof of submitting it, often learned the hard way.

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin - Is there an openly available, third party source we can use to validate the assertion that there was never a complaint?

Nope, all you have is the reporting where you can trust Snowden who stole information and released it to unauthorized people (to include enemy nations), or you can trust the NSA's account of the investigating officers of the NSA who were instructed to look at his claims. If the investigation was conducted appropriately, they were picked because they were not related to Snowden and supposed to be as impartial as possible.

Note, just for argument's sake if he was trying to do the right thing, just because you don't get your way, doesn't mean you have some right to break the law. Especially when you're wrong.
