Should public communications forums like FaceBook and RallyPoint be able to delete/control topics if they are communicated with respect?

RallyPoint just deleted a conversation or thread with no explanation as to why. FaceBook deleted everything I ever posted (along with every friend who had similar stuff posted) regarding Islam, ISIS/ISIL, President Obama news threads, anything against the far political left (news items, etc.,) anything pro-legal carry or pro 2nd Amendment, and anything against Obamacare, the President's falsified birth certificate, etc. I did not make these up, I just reposted links from news articles. The big question is in a land of free speech should anyone have the power to delete a conversation or thread or what ever it may be called if we use respect when trying to communicate with one another and respect our differences of opinions? Freedom of Speech is still allowed here, right?

Yes, if they own the forum, they can control what it is used for. Your freedom of speech doesn't require another to broadcast your message. Their freedom of speech gives them the ability to determine what will be said on their stage.
Whether they should in a given situation is a moral/ethical question. Legally, they are on very solid ground.
NOTE: It would be different if they were considered a utility or a public accommodation (Open to all, all the time, not allowed to discriminate based on viewpoint).

PO1 Steven Kuhn I understand your feelings (and I share them around deleted posts/threads) and expectations. That said, the site is under no obligation to meet them. As a private enterprise, it is free to establish its own standards.

And we sir, as people who served and people who use their site deserve to have our input heard and acted upon just to show us that the moderators or owners of this site are operating on the same level of integrity that you and I and others who served are trying to live by. If not, then they may not deserve our loyalty and we may have to look at other platforms. With the talent in our military someone could make a new site up if this site cannot show us the respect we have earned by service, willingness to serve again, and the respect we show them and one another. Thank you for your response.

Undoubtedly, in fact I expect that there will be copycat sites in no time (there may well be - I haven't looked). Some platforms and sites will work/align better for some people than others - both for technical and "feel" reasons.
(Personally, I would NOT be present if this were an "official" military site.)

RP is generally lenient on letting discussions go unless they become a REALLY big hot spot and the down votes start flying. They do tend to catch repeat posts rather effectively so if your post was very similar in nature to a prior post it may have been eliminated.

I did try and check that, and although one post may have been similar it asked the question from a different viewpoint or perspective and I added an extra caveat. I will endeavor to ensure I do not copy someone else, but do you believe that they should at least explain it to you so that you can have a learning moment??
