Allow me to begin by saying, not just any soldier who buys a gun. One with a CCW. I think at the very least CQ and Staff Duty personnel should be armed with a 120 round minimum. My main argument is why can we carry off post but not on post?

I have a Concealed Weapon Permit and I also live off-post. When I am out and about doing errands I have my pistol with me and my CWP. Now, if I wanted to head on-post I would have to turn back around, head home and put my pistol up. The reason for that is, if you are not going to the POW range on-post, or heading to your on-post residence you may not have a weapon in your vehicle. You also must have it registered with Provost Marshall, which I have done (since I like to hunt). I have taken concealed weapons classes and defensive pistol course as well. I think if we have the training and keep up with it, we should be able to carry on a military installation. Just wondering what your thoughts are? <br>

I think this leads in 2 directions. First, and I'm playing devil's advocate a little here, there is the issue that soldiers are shooting soldiers already. He might get gunned down sooner but he can get a CCW before hand and then legally walk into work armed and ready to kill. Second, you end up with too many armed soldiers reacting to a soldier shooting. This guy is dress like everyone else and has a gun. Imagine the bloodbath as every CCW converges on the area and takes out every other CCW trying to control the situation.

That is a very valid point, but if a soldier wanted to kill another soldier, he'd find a way to get his method of doing so on post regardless. As well, not very many soldiers have a CCW that I am aware of, so I don't think it'd lead to a chaotic situation. Not anymore chaotic then a situation that would need that sort of response would be already at least.

and I believe that knowing that their is armed soldiers on post would discourage any future actions like that from even taking place.

I agree with that assessment, the likelihood of one's rampage being put down before it started is certainly a deterrent. I just have mixed feeling about everyone being armed when these kinds of situations arise. My university brought up a similar point after the school shootings but I was opposed to CCW on campus because I didn't want to get caught in the crossfire of a bunch of untrained civilians. Obviously SM's would be better trained but still...
